35 yr old Caucasian Male
For the past 4 years I have been having on/off periods of muscle weakness. The first occurrence was in Spring 2008 just as I was completing the construction of my new home. My legs became weak and I started feeling tired. I assumed it was from the extensive manual labor involved in building my house. I decided to see my family doctor who did some blood work. He tested my CPK which was 304 and I also tested positive for Epstein Barr. All other blood work was normal. Shortly after seeing the Dr. my weakness went away. Roughly a year/half later July 2009 the same symptoms came back. Weak/achy legs. Primarily my calf muscles. Sore only in the calf. The Dr. did additional blood work and my CPK was 208. All other tests were normal. About 2 months ago the weak/achy legs came back. It started with the sore calf muscles and moved into my thigh. I decided it was time to see a specialist. The Dr. once again did a complete work-up. All blood-work was normal. My CPK was 364. After a month of weak/sore legs my arms started feeling weak. I then revisited the Dr. wondering why I was feeling this way. He then referred me to a neurologist. At the time I also had the Dr. look into a cough I had. He prescribed me a Z-pack. After day 3 of the antibiotic I started feeling better. The weakness started to go away. Yesterday I seen a Neurologist who did a complete exam. said I was perfect. He wrote on the sheet Polymyositis as diagnosis. He said he dosent think its that but needs to do a EMG and re-test my CPK levels. For the past couple weeks I have been kind of going through a worry-some/depression mode due to the fact that no-one can diagnose me. Im not looking for something to be wrong but I know being tired all the time isnt going to work for me. Any ideas? Or possible herbal treatments for weakness? I have no family history of muscle disorders so I am kind of confused. It seems like the weakness comes on when my immune system is low. Was just seeing what you think! Thank you for reading!
