my epiglottis for some reason will come out covering part of my trachea, other wise know as your wind pipe. It will cut my breathing off,and then all of a sundden it will open up and my oxygen will go up to 98%. Has anybody had this problem? What did your dr. do for it?

  • What are they giving you to open you back up? Are you sure it's epiglottitus, or could it be tracheal stenosis, or a variety of other upper airway problems. Have you ever been intubated (placed on a ventilator) for this? Do you have any other pulmonary disorders?

  • /Doctor put scope down throat and seen the epiglottis tiped out over the air way,he order a cat scan and found a small 7mm polyp in the vallecular region on right side, he felt that this may be the cause ,why the epiglottitus some times coms out and blocks some of the air way,i had it removed but still have same problem.when he operated he said every thing looked good.He also said he did not see any disease. Please what can cause this?I can be fine one minute, and then get slamed.I know when you eat or drink, the epiglotitis closes and then opens, what can trigger it to start closing,or not going all the way back how it should? When its at its worst is when i move it seems to trigger it,to close more when i walk even from the living room to the kitchen. I can be at a 96 to a 98 oxygen level, and be droped to 82 in an instant. There are other times i have no problem at all for weeks at a time. But when it hits it can last for months. Have you ever heared of this? Is there a treatment for this? Do you know a dr. that there speciality is epiglotitis? Please help THANK YOU TROYPS no other pulmonary disorders-----NO ventilator

  • Ear nose throat/ ENT doctors are the specialists with this kind of thing...you should have already been referred to one. What are you checking your oxygen at home with? Your epiglottis is prob not failing to open and shut, it's typically a swelling issue, but should not come and go away like that. I would see an ENT or allergist. Allergies can cause these kind of things, but once again they shouldn't go away on their own.

  • Had blood test done the eosins was high 13 should be 0 to 2 the other eosin was 0.93 was also high should be 0.04 to 0.44.After this test come back high, they did a ige blood test this come back high 129 should be 0 to 114. After these test were done they drew more blood for a allergen profile, where they checked 37 allergens, came back ok, only difference is the first two blood test was taken when i was realy sick and could not breath, the last blood test was taken when i was feeling fine.DO you think that would make a difference? And should i still look for allergens that may be causing my breathing problem? I have a new house , and all new carpet do you think that that could cause this? Or have you ever heard of carpet causing this?THANS TROY
