Elbow Pain

Four weeks ago I had a sudden onset of pain in my elbow. The pain is in the muscle as well as in the bone. I have seen 7 doctors (1 GP, 3 orothopedics, 1 ER surgeon, 1 ER Internist, 1 Neurologist) and still am no better. The Xrays, bloodwork (no clot) and MRI (no infection, just some swelling)were all normal.

I was given 2 shots of cortisone 8 days ago, which did not help. Following the injection I had muscle numbness for 4 days. I now have a very dark, almost black, bruise at one of the injection sites and it has gone somewhat hard.

I was referred to a neurologist today who tested my nerves and concluded they were normal.

The pain is really bad. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • This sort of pain can originate from your upper back/ neck. It wouldn't explain the swelling though. The bruise is from blood leaking under the skin and is probably not too much to worry about in itself. The hardness is probably due to fluid accumulating somewhere and it depends where it is on whether you have to worry about it (if it is in the muscle you should see your doctor).
