I have been swelling in my legs, feet, and ankles for a year now. I have had several tests done and the doctors tell me that they can't find out what could be wrong. One doctor said my condition could have been viral. The swelling has caused me to gain a lot of weight that I can't get off. I even exercise and diet. I have been on all types of diuretics and I am still having the swelling problem. At first my left leg always was the biggest. But now, my right leg is starting to swell a little bit more. There have been a couple of times when my face was swoll and my knuckles. I'm miserable!!! I am always sore and at times, I can't hardly walk. The fluid is not flushing out of me like it should. It seems like everything I put into my body stays and don't come out. Oh, there have been several occassions when my weight would go up 20+ pounds in a couple of days. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

How old are you? Has anyone looked at your blood circulation in your legs and feet? Has anyone looked at the possibility that you have lymphoedema? Doctors don't like to think outside the box..i actually had swelling in my vuvla that ended up swelling to the size of a grape fruit recently. my Doctor told me it was a cyst because I was "too young" to have a lympathic swelling. Sometimes the answer is right there if someone looks for it.

  • I am only 30 years old. Several doctors have toldme that I don't have lymphadema. That was one of my first concerns and I had them to check that out. I don't know what to do now. I have gained more weight since the day I posted this blog.

  • Kedwards,Have you had a thorough examination of your heart? By a cardiologist? Deedee,If you have swelling in vulva the size of a grape, it could be an internal varicose vein. Most often it is caused by varicosed ovarian vein. There is an anatomical difference between right and left ovarian vein which gives bigger strain on the left one. If the “cyst” is on the left side, then is even more probable. To diagnose this, you need a phlebography of ovarian veins. They are too thin and too deep inside you abdomen to be examined by ultrasound.

I had sickness a year ago and many of the sames things are happening with more issues compounded. The Doctors are not being thorough and some are flat out lying to me knowing that I work in Healthcare. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The "mass" was on the right side. I am getting very annoyed with the Doctors. Kedwards, I agree with Felsen. A specialist of the Heart might be a good bet. This issue could be vascular in nature. You're around my age. It is fustrating to be young and to have these issues. What makes it worse is that Docs a lot of times look at our age and poo poo us off. Please don't give up. You know something is wrong. Don't get discouraged. BTW- any other symptoms? Dana

  • I have seen two cardiologists. The first one I didn't like and the second one can't find out why I'm having this problem. The fluid got around my heart one time and I had to have surgery to get it removed. I just don't know what to do now.

  • I too suffer with fluid retention. I have done alot of reseach on this and kidneys, heart, and liver can cause you to retain fluid. Im only 34 and have had this for about 10 years. I have been know to gain 15 pounds over night. My skin feels like I Have on tight clothes when I move around and bend. I have fluid in my face hands, legs and stomache. Some days when it is really bad I look pregnant. I have been to doctor and because Im a small frames woman, the doctors don't even believe me that i am that swollen cause i don't look swollen. But people who know me can see it. all they did for me was put me on the pill when i complained about it.Some womand just retain fluid because of period. That what they told me anyway. Sucks though knowing only relief will come with menapause. I hurt all the time. I don't even bother telling anybody how bad i feel, cause I don't think they would believe me anymore. On the bad days I swear there is fluid in my brain. I get really foggy and when someone speaks to me it takes longer to process their words. Those day's are real scary.Yes also on those days I don't pee as much. And lo and behold when it starts to decrease I can't stay off toilet.Good luck in you diagnosis and know there are other woman going through this. I try to keep my humor about it and know I will never ever get dehydrated. Heck I can't thank of the last time my mouth even got dry. lol

  • I am going through the same exact thing. Sometimes I can wake up and have gained 20+ more pounds of fluid. And I swell in the same areas also. It's miserable because this has caused me to gain alot of extra weight. I'm tired of taking water pills and alot of times I don't urinate alot. Sometimes I might have to use the bathroom more frequently but it's not that much. One morning I woke up and my face, hands, stomach, feet, ankles, and legs were swollen. I felt my eye bulging. I have also tried the compression hoses and they don't help. I'm tired of not being able to wear my clothes.
