Hi
My best friend suffers really badly with dry skin, it crackes and bleeds and she has tried everything.
Perfumed lotions hurt and whatever she puts on it doesnt really help.
I advised her to go to the dermotologist but she has 3 young kids and a full time job so finding the time is a big problem.
I dont know if this will help but she gets terrible ulsers as well, looks so painful.
Any advise?
Thanks Lyndsay:confused:

  • Is this bleeding just on her hands or on her whole body? Does it get worse in the winter? If it's her hands: Most important, she should make sure that no dish soap, detergents, or cleaning agents contact her skin (medical gloves from a drugstore are a good way to acheive that). Never go out in the cold while hands are still wet. Lotions will hurt until the bleeding stops, but unless the bleeding is really bad I would still use them. She should put a bottle at every sink and use it many times a day. For me personally aloe is a crucial ingredient; all those medicated and high-tech formulas don't do a thing in my opinion. Also, there's also a product called new-skin liquid bandage (http://www.newskinproducts.com/liquid-bandage.htm) which helps seal up the bleeding cracks while they heal. Has she tried all this? Of course, seeing a dermatologist would certainly be the best idea; the ulcers make me wonder if this is more than just dry skin.

  • The absoloute BEST thing to use for this condition is an ointment called, "Bag Balm"-- its been around for ages, & it can be found in any pharmacy, like a Walgreens. -- I recently moved from a warm climate to a very cold climate, and my skin got so chapped, it cracked and bled as you described. -- Tried several things, but the 'Bag Balm" cleared it up literally like in one day! --It was pretty amazing, and I use it about 2x a week now to prevent chapping, and my hands are soft & smooth again.-- It was originally made to be a salve for cows udders, but its also long been used by humans as a salve for cracked & severely dry skin, eczema, corns, and even does wonders for diapers rash. -- It was even praised on CBS News-- Check it out: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/02/01/health/main6162364.shtml HiMy best friend suffers really badly with dry skin, it crackes and bleeds and she has tried everything.
