My moter-in-law has been in 3 hospitals in the past week. She is currently in ICU. Not quite a week ago she was taken to the dr. for a fever & feeling tired. She was diagnosed with kidney infection, given I.V.'s and sent home. By night time she was taken back to the hospital for 104 temp and showing signs of confusion & shaking. Potasium & electrolites were both low, blood pressure was up & down. 3 times in the past week her heart has stopped, all for 9 seconds each time. The first time this happened she was air lifted to a larger hospital. Tests have been run for pheumonia, kidney infection, west nile, ct scans, cultures, (I can't remember them all) Nothing has showed up. She is currently in a near coma state.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have currently researched and pointed out to the dr's the following: medication reaction, valley fever, encephalitis, aseptic meningitis, super killer bug, insulin reaction, Actos reaction...
I am open to any suggestions........TIA!

  • Has your mother-in-law been checked for diabetes? Or even for some systemic infection? My grandmother was in a coma-like state and had collapsed about twenty years ago. I wish I could remember whether she had a fever or not, but I think she did. While she was in the coma, the doctors discovered that she was in a diabetic coma. I have also heard of a systemic infection causing the symptoms you describe. Have they checked her white blood cell counts? I hope this helps. Hang in there.I would also like to recommend the Cleveland Clinic if you are close enough. It is one of the best hospitals in the world.
