please help me. my friend amy, 43 yrs., normally very healthy has been in an icu unit for over a week with little to no improvement. it started with the flu, turned into double pneumonia and now there is an undiagnosed/untreatable viral infection/bacterial infection that is not subsiding. they have her on paralytics (sorry for my mis-spelling of some things) to paralyze her muscles, they have her sedated to the point of unconciousness, on a ventilator, 100% oxygen and pumped full of broad spectrum antibiotics as well as penicillin. nothing is working. she has a temperature of 100 to 101. she is very bloated as to be expected. the infectious disease doctor is basically throwing up his hands saying he doesn't know what to do. we can't move her to another facility as we are told there is not a ventilator that can go above 50%. she can't get a cat scan because of this also. she has had an adominal ultra sound that came out fine. she has had a spinal tap which came out fine. they keep doing blood cultures and nothing is "growing" as a result of the saturation of antibiotics in her system or so i am told. please help, any information will be appreciated.Reply Follow This Thread Stop Following This Thread Flag this Discussion
