My daughter is 11 years old she has been healthy most of her life. When she was 8 she had ITP which consists of an extremely low blood platelet count. Doctors do not know why you get it and it goes away on its own in a few days. Since then she has not had any problems with low blood platelets. For about 6 months my daughter has been sick. She catches a cold very easy and in fact it never seems to go away. She has had several sinus infections, she has had strep throat 3 times, she has a headache almost everyday and she also has stomach aches almost everyday. I have just been thinking its the flu or a cold but now it is getting to be ridiculous! We eat healthy, exercise, she has been taking vit. C and Zinc nothing helps. Her doctor just says its a virus......about 4 months ago they said she has mononucleousis which accounts for some of the symptoms but its seems like she should be better by now.....I just dont know what to do. Her immune system just doesn't seem to fight anything off!!
Any info or ideas of what it could be would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks-

  • My daughter was also very sick for three years!!!!!!Started out with lots of colds and then within 6 months she had mono. She had pounding headaches, joint pain, sores in her mouth and always tired. She spent a lot of time with a gastro doctor, almost a year. Every blood test and all the gastro tests were negative. Doctors couldn't diagnosis anything. The rheumatologist told me she probably has lupus! Then that came back negative. They checked for lyme early on too so that was eliminated. But recently I was convinced that was what she definitely had. All the drs at LIJ said that lyme was low on the list of differentials and I should now take my daughter to a neurologist, which is the 28th doctor we would have gone to. Anyway, I took her to a dr who was lyme literate and they checked for all the co-infections and that was what she had. In fact, she was on doxycycline for a week when they did the blood work and then the lyme this time was not completely negative. After being on the doxycycline for a month and a half, all her symptoms have mostly gone. She tested positive for bartonella, both kinds. There are many kinds of tick bacteria. Lyme is just the most popular. After you have been sick long enough, the blood work sometimes doesn't show up. Kids like to play manhunt in the bushes and that is where the ticks are. We have family in CT and lyme is all over the place there. Since we visit there frequently, I am thinking that is where it happened. Lyme is just something to consider sinceit is one of the top ten misdiagnosised diseases. I am posting unregistered because the site wouldn't let me sign in. I have auser name Soho kitty. good luck

  • Have you had her tested for candida? I would find a holistic health practioner in your area and have her tested or there are websites that have questionaires you can answer to get an idea as well. Hope that helps.
