I am a 32 yo male and have been active/healthy my entire life. 3 years ago Drs. discovered an abscess in my liver the size of a softball. They drained the abscess and I haven not had any symptoms/ problems, until now. They never gave me a reason as to the cause of my abscess just to check on it every 6 months or so. I had a CT scan in Dec 09 since I thought it was coming back, I felt something in my back area. CT showed a small pocket of fluid and my blood work showed elevated liver enzymes but they were only slightly elevated and the Drs told me to check back but again those symptoms of body ache and pain went away after a short while.
In mid July I started to feel body ache (flu like aches) which is exactly what I felt when I had my abscess years ago, this time i had side/back pain and was very tired and had a low grade fever. The only thing that would make it go away was ibuprofen. I went to the dr thinking it was back and they did CT scans etc and found that there still was a sac of fluid but it had not grown much since Dec 09 or my last CT scan 3 years ago. They deduced that my problems cannot be from that sac that is still there. It is now under my diaphram and i feel it when I yawn etc. I feel it now and I did not over the past 3 years. During one of my CT scans they found an enlarged spleen and my liver enzymes which were slightly elevated in Dec 09 were increasing even more. Other sypmtoms at this time were low grade fever and just overall fatigue (monolike fatigue).
So fast forward 3 months....my liver enzymes have come down to about the 09 level my spleen is no longer enlarged, my energy is back up for the most part, and I no longer have a fever. I still however do have the constant body ache. So i have been taking ibuprofen 4/day which redeuces the body ache. I still do not feel normal enough to work out. The drs have done numerous tests, CT scans, nuclear med type test and everything comes back negative. The ID dr said it is a virus and i should come back in a few months.....does anyone have ANY idea of what this may be? It is really frustrating that the drs just more or less gave up. I think it is the sac of fluid in my body but numerous surgeons/drs have said that cannot be the cause.....Any ideas / suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Very frustrated.
