  • Well, speaking strictly from a general perspective, Bipolar disorder is the presence of major depressive episodes accompanied by one or more manic, hypomanic or mixed episodes depending upon BP1 or BPII classifications within the DSM. The prospect of adult ADHD is quite controversial and research of any respectable nature is in the very early stages to be certain. The clinical issues are much less reliable because in all instances, there has to have been documented presence of the disorder in childhood, which raises an altogether different sort of reliability confound. True instances of clinical childhood ADHD are far less frequent than the endless claims based entirely upon subjective criteria. I'd ask at this point how long you were evaluated prior to a diagnosis? In addition, provide a brief summary of your history which led to the conclusions being entertained by either you or your healthcare professional. Best regards, J Cottle, MD
