My husband has had debilitating dizziness (spinning room and light-headedness) and muscle weakness for about a year now. In addition, he has had bouts of nausea that pre-date the dizziness. Recently he has been experiencing extreme body temps opposite of the ambient temp, i.e. when it's hot he's freezing and then often overheats. He also suffers from insomnia AND narcolepsy.
He has tested negative for diabetes several times. Most recently he went to a neurologist who ran a battery of tests, including an MRI, and found nothing abnormal. The only conclusive thing that has been found is high blood pressure. His life is upside down - he has been unable to work consistently due to the dizziness, and often loses large chunks of the day due to the narcolepsy and/or muscle weakness. The neurologist was our last best hope. Now we are at a loss. Any suggestions for new leads would be appreciated.
FYI - he is overweight (6'2" and 295 lbs.)

  • Did the dr put hubby on meds for Blood pressure? Was Ms and all that ruled out? Did they test his thyroid? The thyroid can cause may of the problems that your speaking of. And sometimes when the tests read normal, the drs believe the test and don't treat the patient. The other thing I can think of is Lyme disease and co-infections, drs don't automatically test for them. Hope you get it figured out soon.~~Dee

  • Has your husband had his thryoid checked ? In addition, it sounds like he should have a cortisol level drawn.

  • I think that you could use a good endocronoligst. Sounds alot like he might have something going on with his adrenals. Good luck...

  • He does have a prescription for the high blood pressure. A gastroenterologist diagnosed the nausea as Reflux and he took medication for that for months, but it didn't help. Otherwise he has not been tested for MS or anything other than diabetes and neurological disorders. The chills and overheating led me to believe it was something to do with the endocrine system, but I wanted to get a better idea of what exactly. He hates going to the doctor and not getting answers when he does go doesn't help. I appreciate all of your suggestions and will look into them all further. Feeling hopeful.
