I first started feeling these symptoms back in August but they would come and go, and now its pretty much constant. I feel extremly disorented, like if you have a high fever along with bouts of confusion, slurred speech, trouble finding words. These other symptoms seem to get much worse with exurtion. I was put on disability on dec 4 for testing, complete mri of the brain, vng test at a ent doc, tilt table test and stress echo test done by a cardio doc and now im seeing a nuroligist who has done an eeg and all my tests have come back normal. Next is the spinal tap. I have been back to work for three weeks because my doc cant find anything wrong and I have been missing about two or three days a week because I just feel horrible and cant handle anything. I feel kind of like im drunk or in a fog and disconected. In the mri they did find mild tonsilar ectopia of a few millimetters but said that it is unrelated and dosent match my symptoms. Cardio doc said I have high blood pressure 145\105 and put me on pills. I am feeling completly hopeless and dont want to live the rest of my life like this, what do I do?

  • Are you man or women? How old are you? Have you been tested for autoimmune diseases? There are several conditions I am aware of that may cause the disorientation, fuzzy thinking and foggy head and many that I know have to do with the endocrine system or diet problems and some are are often hard to diagnose: diabetes, thyroid (any history of thryoid problems in family?)adrenals Pituitary tumors (can be hard to see on MRI if it is not a specialist)Candida Low Iron, anemia, low ferritin (iron storage values)Celiacs diseasehormonal problemsundiagnosed sleep condition (apparently docs don't often catch this one if you don't fall in the "typical" range of symptoms....so in that sense hard to diagnose.) There may be others conditons having to do with the liver and kidneys that may cause that symptoms as well...probably some other folks here will probably help moe on that...I am not sure on those. I just can belive that this is all in my head

  • I'd be asking for a CT head - I've had issues to, mine likely to strongyloides, see my other postings..

  • No it is NOT all in your head...doctors like to say that when they run out of ideas...I say DO YOUR RESEARCH doc! The sleep study is a good idea....a really good sleep study get you there at night and tries to make ithe experience as calm and nighty nighty night as much as can be expected ...though you have wires hooked up...will you have that type? If not, you may want to pursue this type.....no sleep or not the right type can cause multiple physical problems...but meanwhile might not hurt to get a few other blood tests to rule out other stuff....Joan...good luck!

  • What were you doing and where were you in July, before your symptoms?

  • Could you have some kind of typhus. Typhus symptoms can include confusion, high fever, brain dysfunction -brain fog, speech slur. When your doctor does the spinal tap, can he also test for typhus antibodies? Are you fatigued. Monsterlove asked what you were doing in July. Try to make a list of all the places you went away from home as a reference for yourself. Then think of the things you might have been exposed to. For instance, were you anyplace that you might have gotten a tick bite? Good luck!

  • Wouldnt an mri show more detail then a ct scan? And in july i started working where I am now, at a foundry. Ive gone over all the chemicals I work with with my doc and he says that its fine. I did relapse of meth one time in july after not using for two years and I havent used since. I did an eeg a week ago and it came back normal, now Im just waiting for my spinal tap.

  • Any sore throat? Enlarged lymph nodes? Gastrointestinal upset? It sounds like either 1) environmental toxin issue (did you move into a new home/apt or new work environment? get a new couch or carpet? See "sick house syndrome" 2) virus 3) mold/fungus/yeast Not in your head! Don't let the doctors tag with this one!

  • I dont have a fever, but I do have GERD, pretty bad actually, but as long as I take prilosec every day then Im fine. I did start a job in july in a foundry working in the acid etch department, but Ive worked with all of these chemicals before and I was off work for four months and my symptoms never went away, so I dont think that would be it, and I belive my sore throat is related to the chemicals but who knows cause it goes away over the weekend.

Does this foundry have its air quality tested, specifically has there been any signs of toxic metals (mercury, lead, arsenic etc.) There is an easy test for this and quite inexpensive, go to traceelements.com and ask for a referral. The EPA recognizes this test as valid for heavy metal testing. Another idea is that the environmental pollutants are weaking your immune system and that some infectious agent got into you. Brain fog is coming from toxins either 1) that your body is creating from an infection response or that the infection is producing or 2) is exogenous or outside the body (environmental pollutants)> I didn't know about the sore throat. This is a sign of some infection entering the body (and it doesn't necessarily mean it is in the throat) the throat contains lymph which would respond to an infection. Are your lymph nodes under your jaw inflamed? The lymphs also appear in the groin and under the left arm torso area. Joint pain? Muscle pain? Did you mention GI problems outside of GERD? Bowel changes? Loose stools, pain, bloating, abdominal distention? Could be signs of an infection in the gut such as parasites etc. Parasites will cause a lot of trouble systemically. And yes Americans can get parasites. Go to the CDC or NIH site about CFS and see if the symptoms match yours and let us know.

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • GERD, insomnia and high blood pressure speak of a magnesium deficiency. Also of note: when I came down with my parasite infection, I was disorientated, had slurred speech, was extremely exhausted and had brain fog to the extreme, sleep difficulties, hormonal changes, stress like crazy, bowel issues, sore throat, joint/muscle pain and basically felt like death.

  • Have you been tested for Lyme disease??? disorientation is a primary symptom in later stages. make sure you get tested at a lab that speializes in lyme testing. you can also have your blood sent to Stonybrook university hospital in stonybrook new york to their lyme lab. Cal them & they will send a kit to your dr or lab. Also anxiety can cause dissacociation that would make you foggy or more like things were unreal. distortion of time, space& self are terrifying symptoms.
