Difficult vein problem to figure out

I have this problem with my jugular vein and it is scary. I don't have a way to get back to the U.S. for treatment at the moment. I have head pain on my right lower side and when I lift my right arm the jugular vein pops out big. Plus if I lay on that side it pops out also and pulses and gives me so much head pain. I am even losing hearing in that ear now. I think its possible that a bone or something may be pressing on it to cut off the blood supply and make it pool in my head.....because when I raise my arm I hear a slight popping sound in my sternum..Sometimes my head gives me shooting pains unexpectedly in the area, and that side of my neck has some rather big lumps under the skin in the back and one new one in the front of my neck, Anyone know what this is or what is the risk?

  • I have used cell phones sometimes on that side, but not so much in the past 3 years since I've been in Europe. It is very surprising and scary though. I'm gonna research the topic and place it in my blog-because people need to know the risks involved. http://spiralequilibrium.wordpress.com/ Thank you.:)

  • Ignore Blaze, she posts that same exact response to everybody's queries. She just copies and pastes it.I would recommend seeing a cardiologist immediately. A lot of various heart defects and problems can cause jugular vein distension. Do you have any other symptoms at all? Swelling? Pain elsewhere? Swollen glands? Anything?

  • No swelling anywhere. All I know is that it seems progressive. It originally presented with just head pain. Then after a few months I noticed what my vein did when I raised my arm. Then it began to pop out when I lay on that side. It even seems I have more skin now on that side of my neck to allow for this. I have a big lump under-behind my ear that it resides in the most-3 fingers wide and now I feel one at the front right side of my neck the size of a marble. When I lay down, I get a lot of pressure in my head like blood is just pooling up there. Wierd huh? But I do feel like I'm going to have a stroke if I don't get out of this backwards country. and you dont dare go to hospital or doctor here sor sure!

  • Hmm, it still sounds like it could easily be a cardiac problem. You might also have some kind of tumor that's constricting the jugular vein or some other blood flow in your neck. You really need to see a doctor as soon as possible, as decreased blood flow to the brain can have lasting consequences. Do you mind if I ask which country you're in at the moment? Even if the average medical centers aren't up to snuff, there might be specialist places you can go to - i.e. sometimes US embassies can get US citizens into military hospitals or other international facilities closer to what you're used to and/or better suited to address your needs. And how long would it be before you could get back to the states?
