different 'mechanism' for drinking liquids? (mechanism as in gulping/sipping...)

when i drink liquids, i do this sort of facilitated sip thing... like i have my mouth on the cup or straw and consequitively suck in little bits of water right after another - it's hard to describe. I've always been like this, and i CAN gulp/swallow water like other people but it is uncomfortable or unenjoyable to me - again, hard to describe.

ive realized that it's not normal, and felt embarrassed to drink comfortably around others from time to time because it is markedly not so and they always notice. people also always think i'm downing the liquid if they do see it generally comment like 'whoa you're thirsty,', but in fact it is a far slower method of drinking than normal ones.

does anyone else do this? is there a reason for it? Ive searched a few times and can't find even a hint about it/anyone else and it.
