  • It sounds like respiratory distress of some sort. Possibilities may include: COPD (emphysema and/or asthma), ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome), hypoxia, pneumonia, etc. Was a chest X-ray done? Was pulse oxygen saturation taken (on finger probe)? Was/is this person a smoker? More information is needed for an accurate diagnosis. Also, I'm not a doctor, just a nurse, and I have been searching in my critical care nursing book for an answer, but it could be many things based on what you gave. Hope I can be of help!76yrs old man has sypmtoms of:coughfeversputum production, with pleurity on physical exam, shows:tachypnea (rapid breathing)consolidation (irregualr breathing)
