Delayed diagnosis - ruptured achilles tendon

Treated for slightly broken ankle 9 months ago - still have a limp. Now they say I have a ruptured achilles tendon. Is the treatment different after this long? I don't want surgery, if possible. They just missed the tendon problem. what do I do now?
