I recently took a fall. I was running after my last bus home and managed to (gracefully) fall flat on my face. I have a very bruised and swollen upper lip and really hideous cut above the lip line. The cut has scabbed over but it keeps opening up with the slightest movement and really hurts! I smile and laugh a lot, even when talking. I don't know how to get the swelling down! What can I do to help (and speed up) the healing process and how can I reduce potential scarring? I'm a girl and am very scared of how it's going to look afterwards! :S

thank you! :)

  • Not sure how to help with the scaring but I had a similar problem. Split my lip open playing ball. Never got it stitched, I just let it scab up and it did scar. The scar was slightly off center and it made me look like I have crooked lips. I'm a guy so it really didn't bother me. Anyway, I know the problem you have getting it to heal, my friends would always try to make me laugh because they knew it hurt when that scab ripped open. Sounds mean but it was funny when your 20 years old. The best way to help was to keep it doused in bacitracin or nowadays, neosporin. Keeping the scab good and moist took away that ripping sensation and bleeding, not sure if this would help or worsen the scar potential. Good luck! Just noticed your post was from Nov 2008, sorry I'm soooo late...did it scar???
