one week ago i thought i hurt my back. i came home from work and put my briefcase down on the counter-all of a sudden i had a sharp pane on the left side of my back. i had hurt my back the week before and spent 3 days in bed with ice and heat and it went away. i thought i had just hurt it again.

the next day, saturday the pain was horrible, i could barley walk, and i had the chills. i took my temperature and it was 101.7-I'm 33 years old and have always been really healthy luckily, and have a very high tolerance for pain. as the day/night went on i was in so much pain i thought i was going to die.

sunday still really bad pain and a fever that went between 99. and 100.7

mon. went to a chiropractor-he said i had pulled a muscle in my back-but the fever concerned him...told me to watch it.

tues. still in major pain and still have fever

wed. go back to chiro and he takes my temp it's 100.2 he insists i go see my PCP. I go, he does a urine test-says i have puss in my urine and that its probably some type of bacteria infection-maybe a kidney infection. sends me for a blood test, cat scan, abdomenal ultrasound, and trans vag ultrasound. gives me an antibiotic to start taking and a pain killer.

thurs. get cat scan and ultrasounds done-still have fever, chills, back pain isnt as bad with painkillers but it is still there-just not as severe.

friday/today-doctor calls all the tests came back negative, there is not a bacteria in my body and the scans and ultrasounds look fine. He tells me to make appt w/ my obgyn. I have an appt on Mon at 11:30.

has anyone had an experience similar to mine? severe lower back pain on the left side, sore kidney, fever for almost a week, and puss in urine?

im getting frustrated because i just want to know whats wrong so i can get it treated and get back to work, life, friends, etc.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • Cystitis may be the cause, I work in a laboratory at the hospital and we get many females who experience UTI-like symptoms, however their cultures come back negative. If the dipstick is positive for only WBC, not nitrates and we don't see bacteria when we do their urine microscopic...it's usually inflammation of some sort. My sister is going though a similar situation where everything is negative, but she has UTI symptoms. In her case we are concerned of bladder cancer because my father recently passed away from a misdiagnosed bladder cancer condition. He had a horrible urologist that kept saying it was recurrent UTI's and gave him antibiotics that would make him sick when all the while he had a malignant growth in his bladder that eventually spread to the lungs and brain. Not sure how well CT scans, if at all, can pick up IC. CT scans may pick up uterine fibroids, kidney stones, etc. Have they done a cystoscopy?
