I had my foot crushed and 8 months later I have no improvement and no answers.
Essentially my ankle aches all the time...it's not a horrible pain when resting but it definitely aches. When I walk for about 30min or more the aching gets a lot worse. I get a large amount of pain when my toes are pointed up or down which is interfering with my normal activities.
I had 2 sets of x-rays which showed nothing, then a bone scan and ultrasound about 8 weeks after my injury (and after begging my doctor).
Here is the bone scan:
Ultrasound: "Clinical indication: Lateral ankle and midfoot pain. Trauma. Rule out peroneal tendonitis or tear. Findings: The ankle tendons are unremarkable. No joint effusion identified. Impression: Unremarkable study."
8 months later, countless doctors appointments, physio...nothing has helped. I was finally sent for an MRI.
MRI: "12mm area of patchy ill-defined T2 is intensity change of the lateral malleolus compatible with edema, microtrabecular injury, or bone bruise. Small amount of fluid is seen in the anterolateral gutter."
(the report is longer but everything else was normal)
I'm thinking 8 months is a long time to still show a bone bruise, but I'm not really worried about it. My doctor did not address the fluid in the anterolateral gutter and said the results were good news. That doesn't really help me, though.
I'm getting really frustrated and don't know what to do.
