i won't get into the list of symptoms....but i just have one question.....i went to a neurologist...after hearing my history and symptoms he thought i had ms....he sent me for an mri(without contrast)...he said my mri was negative for ms and said he was completly ruling it out.my question is...could it still be ms with a negative mri???? or should i feel comfortable that it's not ms????

  • I don't know much about the disease progression but,it's 95 percent Accurate when evaluating people that were suspected of having MS according to:MRI in the diagnosis of MS A prospective study with comparison of clinical evaluation, evoked potentials, oligoclonal banding, and CT D. W. Paty, MD, J. J. F. Oger, MD, L. F. Kastrukoff, MD, S. A. Hashimoto, MD, J. P. Hooge, MD, A. A. Eisen, MD, K. A. Eisen, RN, S. J. Purves, MD, PhD, M. D. Low, MD, PhD, V. Brandejs, W. D. Robertson, MD andD. K. B. Li, MDNeurology, 1988in this study 19/20 people with positive MRI MS will develop MS. Sensitivity is apparently high (95-100) as well. So, it would be very unlikely it is still MS.

  • Maybe see if your symptoms fit with another illness as there are other things which could resemble MS. http://www.mult-sclerosis.org/differentialdiagnosis.html I have chronic fatigue immunity dysfunction sydrome (CFIDS) and this illness for some can be very MS like. http://wwcoco.com/cfids/bernesx.html I have a friend who has got MS and we both get the same symptoms eg extreme tiredness, numbness, hands which dont work right at times eg i cant trust my hand not to just drop things on me, leg drag, memory issues, not being able to feel the temperature of things etc I get with CFIDS. CFIDS also relapses like MS and stress can make worst just like as in MS.

  • If its multi-symptomatic and tends to diagnose towards a few options, I would also consider Lyme. You can find a pretty comprehensive list of symptoms on http://www.canylme.com Good luck!
