Okay, I can't stand this anymore so I'm coming here for help.
I have had asthma and allergies since I was 12 and I'm 29 now (female). About 5 years ago I caught your typical chest cold. My asthma specialist said to keep taking my inhalers as normal, to take some expectorant if I needed to and if I was having a lot of trouble, to take the nebulizer to open up my lungs again.
Since I've had that cold, I can't stop coughing up phlegm. It's a constant cough that only stops when I sleep (it doesn't wake me up at night). The phlegm is usually clear but sometimes greenish and it's thick and stringy like (sorry for the gory details!).
I've talked to several asthma specialists, plus my family doctor. They have either upped my dosage of Advair temporarily, given me an inhaler called Q-Var or prescribed prednisone if it was bad enough. The prednisone keeps me from coughing but once I'm off it, the cough and phlegm come back again. Likewise with upping the dosage or trying the different inhaler. It works for about a month but then the cough and crap come back.
I am positively at my wit's end. I can't stand this anymore. Can anyone help?
