Cough for over a month

first of all I am pregnant. (9 weeks) I have had a cough for over a month now. No stuffy nose, no other cold type symptom. Just a cough. Very little mucus. mostly just a constant cough and throat irritation that seems to cause me to cough more. sometimes so hard I vomit or gag.

Sometimes the cough gets so bad that my throat feels like its sore and is closing. Taking deep breaths seem hard, like I am not getting as much air as I should. Its REALLY bad at night also.

I can not go to the Doctor. I think I might have chronic bronchitis. If I do.. is that something that will go away on its own? I need to do something but cant go to the doctor..

Thanks

  • Sounds like chronic bronchitis. If you smoke, you need to stop, because it can irriate the lining even more. drink plenty of fluid. use a humidifier. You might have to get a bronchodilator - albutoral. A non productive paroxysmal cough may induce life-threatening bronchospasm. You should see a doctor, there may be other underlying problems.A friend of mine was missed diagnosed by a doctor because he was stuffy and coughing all the time and they told him he had a cold, then it was an ear infection, then swimmers ears. I told him to go the the hospital and get a second diagnose. Turned out he had throat cancer. He had to go for an emergency operation the same day or he would have died. Regardless if you have insurance or not - the hospital cannot turn you away. It is unlawful.

  • If you are 9 week pregnant, you need to see a doctor. You need to have a regular checkup and placed on prenatal vitamin. The first trimester is the most important time for a babies developmental stage. That is the time when the brain develops. Lack of prenatal vitamins and good nutrition can cause major birth defects like mental retardation. Do not try to medicate yourself, certain medications has adverse side effects on babies. Believe me, you do not want to have to raise a child with a disability. My son is 8 and has a life long disability. It is no walk in the park. There are free clinics and the hospital can also direct you to local agencies that can help.

  • I have been taking prenatal vitamins since the day I found out. I have not been self medicating myself. This is my second pregnancy so I know the ropes. As far as going to the hospital, would I have to pay up front? I cant even begin to image the cost of an ER visit with no insurance.

  • If you had bronchitis, you'd be coughing until it hurt or you were out of breath. And you'd probably be coughing up mucous--usually yellow or green and heavily infected. It sounds more like you have a pesky, slight cough. This shouldn't be ignoredI had a friend who had a slight cough for over a year. I kept wondering if he had a cold. I wish I'd said something sooner. It turned out to be cancer in an area between his lungs. He was treated and fortunately recovered, but he had to go through chemotherapy. But whether it's an infection or something more serious you should not let money deter you from seeing a doctor. The emergency room will have to take you; they cannot turn you away. If you don't have any money you might be able to get some part of your bill paid by the county. I guess I assume you are in the US.

  • If you had a flu recently, you may still have the residue of a chronic cough. That happened to me last year. I never had a cough so bad in my 56 years of life. I went to the doctor three times. He said that there was a cough going around that would take 4 to 8 weeks to clear up. I had a chest xray done and found noting wrong. Use a humidifier in your room. My cough went away 8 weeks later. If still there after 8 weeks, you should see someone. Good luck:confused:

  • I've had a cough for five weeks since Christmas...something is going around and everyone thinks they're seriously ill, but I think it's simply a really bad cough bug or flu virus..I thought i should check for cancer too, since I used to smoke a long time ago, but friends have reported same thing
