Hi. I have been suffering from abdominal discomfort, headaches, flatulence, and a constipation feeling even though I pass stools around 4 times a day.My stools do not seem to be healthy as they are small and hard. The headaches are probably the worst part. I have been to the doctors about 5 times and they are unable to make a diagnosis. They have done a number of tests but all results are negative. I am very young, fit and active and lead a healthy lifestyle. I eat very well. Recently I have started excreting blood as well and my symptoms are getting worse.
Please help me I feel awfull all of the time now.

It sounds like you may have Giardia. If so, metronidazole should eradicate the parasite and relieve your symptoms. The other possible diagnoses in a person of your age would be Crohn's or Celiac disease, but that would depend on whether your symptoms are relatively constant or whether they are associated with eating. Blood in the stool would be more suggestive of Crohn's disease. I would recommend trying the metronidazole first, and if that doesn't help, going to see a gastroenterologist.MD2010

  • Ask to see an allergist-a food allergist to be precise. Do you have hay fever? I had the same symptoms and the doctor thought I had stomach cancer or Crohn's disease.Have them check for allergies to fruit, nuts and mushrooms. If you are allergy, be advised that you will have to stop eating this food, and therefore due to a lack in vitamins, etc., will lose energy. See a dietician now so tht they can help to redirect you to a proper diet regime. When I went through this 20 years ago, it was not very common, most dieticians thought I just didn't want to eat my fruits.Good luck.

  • Do you chew sugar-free gum or consume other diet products? I had the exact same symptoms due to sorbitol intolerance. Sorbitol is an alcohol derivative that is used as a sugar substitute in gum and some desserts (e.g., Healthy Choice ice cream pops). It is a laxative but in sensitive individuals (perhaps those prone to constipation) it bloats the stomach and causes you to poo tiny deer-droppings a thousand times a day. Getting rid of sorbitol got rid of the major, ever-present symptoms, though staying away from all artificial colors/flavors/preservatives, especially low-calorie sugar substitutes (e.g., Equal/phenylalanine, Splenda/sucralose) helps alleviate others still. Some other possibilities:- Megacolon: The symptoms described are consistent but from what I have seen on the internet it is either fairly rare or underdiagnosed.- Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth: Colonic bacteria creep up into the small intestine and feed off undigested foods (such as no-calorie sweeteners), producing gas in the process. This condition can be evaluated by a GI via a hydrogen breath test. In the meantime, see if probiotics help - not the ones in those freeze-dried pills but in a liquid, refrigerated form.- Other non-anaphylactic food allergies: An allergist can evaluate your IgG antibodies via a blood test (as opposed to only evaluating your IgE antibodies via a skin test).

  • Hello my name is Kelly. I have been suffering from migraines, abdominal pain, constipation to the point of lasting up to two weeks, I have been rapidly losing weight, and now my hair has almost fallen out, about 1/3 of previous hair fullness, muscle loss, muscle pain. Please if you have any suggestions that may help that would be great.

It is better to have tests to be conducted, or better yet, to see a doctor..

Constipation can cause small hard stools or pebble like stools. Constipation can cause all your symptoms including causing headaches. (as you arent releasing toxins well from the body when one is constipated). constipation probably has caused a heamorrhoid (spelling?) hence the bleeding. I suggest to take taking fibre supplements to help your bowel.

We visited a doctor last week and we aren't able to solve the problem.. my friends suggested me to have a second opinion... right now we are taking note of everything hat is happening to him as well as the food we eat. Maybe you should also do it.
