Constant trouble breathing in & constant mucus in throat

I'm having trouble breathing in...normal breathing feels short or like they aren't complete. I constantly feel the need to take a deep breath & most of the time I can't. It goes on until I feel lightheaded to the point I feel like I'm going to pass out! I feel fatigued when I do anything physical...just by doing light housework along with my heartrate going up like I've been running. I've also been yawning alot and usually when I try to take deep breaths.

I also have thick mucus hanging around in the top half of my throat...it's always there! It's not sinus drainage and it's very hard to get out..usually I just keep clearing my throat for relief. Warm tea seems to thin the mucus out but as soon as I'm finished drinking it, it's back to the thick constant mucus.

and your answer is Yes, I've smoked for many yrs. But I'm proud to say I have not smoked for a week & a half now (which is a major accomplishment for me) and I don't plan on starting back!

My Dr. isn't sure what is going on. I was prescribed antibiotics and an inhaler. Their not helping at all! I've found many forums where people have the same problems but none of them have found a solution. Any ideas?? Thanks
