I am a 22 year old male who has been experiencing severe throat pain for over 3 months now. I am not a smoker or heavy drinker. I have been on lisinopril for over a year now, but I don't think that is the cause of my symptoms.
Back in late September I came down with the common cold and sore throat. It began with an extremely painful sore throat that transitioned into typical cold symptoms (sneezing, runny nose, cough) by the end of the weekend. The cold lasted for about a full week before going away. Two weeks after the initial sore throat began, I began to experience extreme pain in my throat again, this time without the cold symptoms. The pain is like shards of glass sliding down my throat. I can feel it all the way down below my adams apple. It was so painful that I have had to take Aleve almost daily to alleviate it. I have also tried amoxicillin for strep throat, Zyrtec for allergies, and omeprazole for GERD, but they haven't given my any relief. I have noticed that my throat tends to feel fine when I wake up (it is still red), but as the day goes by it begins to being more red and painful. I don't get it. This sore throat is making me constantly depressed and unmotivated, and I will not be able to see a specialist until another 5-6 months from now.
