My mother has coldness throughout her body, mostly in her legs & feet. This is not on the outside. It is on the inside. She has had numerous neuropathy tests done on her nerves. And it is not neuropathy. She sits with an electric blanket on her for most of the day, & again throughout the night. Has anyone had anything like this? And do you have any suggestions?

  • You say, your mom sits alot under the ele blanket,....It could be something with her circulitory system, cause shes not moving around enough to keep the fluids moving and the heart pumping. Is this her only symptom?? You don't really give any info. A few questions. Does she have medical problems?? On any meds?? Has the thyroid been tested?? Has Raynauds been ruled out? Just a few thoughts for you to look into.Best wishes~~Jersey Lymie

  • Sounds like your mom needs to have blood drawn and see if she is anemic or if her thyroid is the cause of her cold intolerance. Doe she take a multivitamin?Janet Lewis, RN MSN

  • Janet, Thank you for writing us back. My mother had a physical a little while back, & had a blood test. The Dr. said her bloodwork looked fine. And she is taking a multivitamin with iron in it ("One Source"). But she does have Hyperthyroidism. She has been on Synthroid for a few years now. And she does go in regularly to have her Thyroid checked. And they tell her it is fine. Because we have wondered if it was her Thyroid. But then when they say it is fine, we don't know what else we can do, as far as the Thyroid goes. Let us know if you have any other ideas of the cause of this. It is real hard for her to live with this problem. Thank you very much. Annie

  • Jersey Lymie, Thank you for writing us back. For your information, my mother is 83 years old. You asked if this was her only symptom. Yes, actually it is. And as far as her other medical problems, she does have Hyperthyroidism, which she is on Synthroid for. But they tell her that her Thyroid is fine. She has High Cholesterol, and is on Lipitor for that. And she has High Blood Pressure, and is on Zestril for that. She is also on two 325 milligram aspirins a day, because of her having a stroke 7 years ago, & to prevent her from having another. Then she takes an eye vitamin called Ocuvite daily. We did actually look into Raynauds. But we kind of ruled it out because of some of the symptoms. For example, her skin does not turn white on the areas where she is cold. Any help you can give us with this problem would be appreciated. Thank you very much. Annie

  • Blaze, Thank you for writing me back. I mentioned these things to my mother. And her first reaction is that she doesn't know how she will be able to get rid of her electric blanket. But she is going to try. I'm not sure if she has Lyme disease because she doesn't have alot of the symptoms that go with it. But we will read more about it. Thank you so much for the help. Annie

She has had a stroke but I'm not sure if this started before or after the stroke.. She was tested for anemia but thats not it...Her doctors don't seem to concerned about it but we would like some answer to fix this problem...I don't know what to do for her. As me and my husband walk around the house in shorts shes in a winter coat and layers of clothing...I'm clueless but will still look for answers anywhere...

I have this condition, too. I get this extreem coldness throughout my body. My doctor said I had temperol lobe epilepsy but I had a cat-scan and talked to a neurologist. I had no signs of any brain problems. He came to the conclusion this for me was caused by the pain medicine Ultram ER which I have been taking for several years to treat arthritis and fibromylgia pain. I have stoped Ultram ER but the seizures as the doctor called them has continued but is not as strong in me as it was at first. Please let me know what your Mother has found out about her condition.

  • I'm sorry to hear that your mother suffers from this condition also. My mother also had a stroke, about 10 years ago. And we're not sure if this is the cause either. And she isn't Anemic either. We have asked so many doctors about this. But none of them seem to have an answer. So we have basically given up, I guess. And she is just trying to live with it. Sorry I don't have more help for you. Annie Annie,Sounds like your talking about my mother..She is cold all the time, dressing like its winter in 60 degree weather.
