.. just below adams apple - chronic thick phlegm in throat - doesn't respond to attempts to cough up. Appears to happen after eating, but not limited to that. Antihistamines help, but not much.

ENT docs of no help.

Anyone with similar experience?

  • My ENT told me the #1 cause for it is coffee, and it is actually formed in the throat. He told me to take rantinidine, which is for acid reflux but it's an antihistimine (somehow), and also Mucinex, which is guaifenisin, but high dose. It worked for me! Other than that, he said to hydrate a lot with water, and no coffee!:)

  • It sounds awful, but swallow a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar (regular vinegar may work), then gargle and rinse your mouth well with some more vinegar. Most little germs hate vinegar. You can dilute the vinegar if you have to. See if that brings up (or down) the phlegm. If so, spit it out where no one will come in contact with it.
