Chronic, incurable ear infections

I am 24 and like many kids, I used to get ear infections all the time. About 2 and a half years ago, I began getting very painful ear infections. Occasionally antibiotics would get rid of the infection, but with in a week, it was back. Eventually my doctor gave up. I have since seen two different ENTs (Ear, nose and throat specialists). Both of them told me they didn't know what was causing the infections to reoccur. According to them, my ear drum moves fine and my hearing is fine. I have also been checked for TMJ, and don't have it. My last ENT sent me to a neurologist. I have had one visit with the neurologist, and now it seems he is brushing me off as well. He said he doesn't do CT scans or MRIs on the first visit. Instead he sent me to a physical therapist to do work with my neck. This was also because I get daily headaches and have for several years. I am at a total loss. I have had 2, 3, 4, 5 and more "second opinions" and no one seems to have a clue what is causing all of this. It makes me even more mad that none of my physicians seem to even care! Any ideas?

  • I don't recall seeing this on your post so sorry if this doesn't pertain. I had recurrent ear infections too. When I was 21 I had my toncils out. That cleared them up FINALLY... Ear infections are the most painful!!!!! Now 30 years later, TMJ makes my ears hurt like an infection. The other thing I've heard tried is tubes in ears - yes for adults too.The other thing they tried with my son was keeping him on a low level of antibodtics for weeks. Ultimately, this didn't work because like me he developed all kinds of allergies to the medications - but he had his toncils out at 5yrs old and no more infections - he's 22 now.I wish you the best, I can almost feel your pain...

  • One word; Zymox. Available on Amazon. I suddenly began getting ear infections, painful, on and off for most of the year. Went to doctors, specialists. Finally, my girlfriend went on a trip and spoke to a friend. It cured her. Now, I understand it is sold for animals, but if you search, it is also safe for humans. It is just an enzyme that attacks bacteria and fungus. It cured me in 10 to 12 days. I am trying a preventative measure now by admistering it once a month. Trust me, this worked with me, and I was sick of ear infections. Wilson
