I've had Chronic Diarrhea for about 7 1/2 mo's now. Started about 2 mo's after my daughter was born (via my 2nd c-section). By Chronic I mean it will happen everyday 5 to 15 times. It will start out part solid part liquid then go to all liquid. It will stick around sometimes for a few days to more then a month. Then dissapear for only about a week then come back again. I just had a Colonoscopy that came back normal (no cancer, no polyps, nothing!!!) The doc did blood test for Celiac Disease but it came back negative. My primary tested my thyroid and it came back overactive but my T3 and T4 levels are normal. So, now I'm going to Endocrinologist in 3 days. My primary says it's probably "Sub Clinical Hyperthyroidism." I have a major intolerance to heat, get heart palpitations, chest pressure and a whole bunch of other symptoms. The only thing is I have not had any Weight Loss if it is hyperthyroidism. I've actually had quite a bit of weight gain. Was always about 125 pounds. Now I'm 170 pounds. I thought it was from having 2 kids in 2 1/2 yrs. But now this constant Diarrhea is making me wonder if something else is going on. Any ideas anyone?????

  • look up post-partum thyroiditis. The second stage includes weight gain as you mentioned.

  • I had diarrhea quiet often for a long time, didn't pay attention untill in a few years I started having severe pains and only a few years later,I was diagnosed with Crohn's desease, you may want to check this out, they found it by an ultrasound in ER.Good luck, make sure you straighten this out since you only started having this and it won't develop in anything more serious. But you you have a colonoscopy and it didn't find anything it could be a bacteria.http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/diarrhea/

  • I know this sounds quite strange and unrelated, but hear me out. I had chronic diarrhea for 8 months following the birth of my son. Suddenly, last month I was hospitalized for viral gastroenteritis, which comes with severe diarrhea (it just never stops, kinda like the energizer bunny....) ANYWAY, while in the hospital they ran every test known to man on my intestinal tract and found nothing. During an unrelated office visit with OBGYN, he switched my birth control to something with a higher level of progesterone. Sounds strange, but with the increase in progesterone, I've had no problems since.

  • Wow! Starting the day after my second c-section 8years ago, up until now, I have had constant diarrhoea. I have never had a bm that wasn't diarrhoea since. I have been just treating it with imodium it stops I go up to a week with no bm then diarrhoea again. I have tried not taking the imodium in the past few days to see if I can wait it out and suddenly be normal again. No luck so I searched the net a found this. I have several other health problems more recent, tremors that come and go, sleeping too much, I am not sure if they are related. I have been tested for what seems like everything for the tremors and sleep but my doc has giving up scratching his head after sending me to two specialists. I hope you find out what is wrong and get better. I would like to find an answer too. Mandy

  • My diarrhea finally stopped. After close to a year of diarrhea I started having major abdominal pain. Finally the doc did a CT scan and found a large cyst on my ovary. The size of a softball. I was scheduled to have it removed since it was so large. 5 days before surgery the cyst ruptured. Within a month of the rupture my diarrhea completely stopped. Docs theory is that the cyst was pressing on my intestines causing the diarrhea. Haven't had as much of the tiredness either. I think the lack of energy, etc.... was being caused by the cyst on my ovary messing with my hormones (note: one person that responded said the birth control pills helped). I honestly think the cyst was causing at time too much estrogen to be released and at other times not enough. Recently I had similar symptoms again and sure enough.....the cyst was back. It ruptured.....all symptoms are gone.
