I know my symptoms aren't as bad as a lot of the posts on this site, but I would like to see if anyone knows what I could have since this has gone on for so long. I have had a productive cough for a little over a year now (it started January '08). It's not a very bad cough, but annoying because of how long I've had it. Also, it seems to get worse after I eat. I haven't seen a doctor yet because I don't have health insurance right now. The coughing is basically the only symptom, however I always have a postnasal drip, trouble breathing through my nose, and I tend to get coughs and congestion a lot.

  • You might have sinusitis and the infection might has spread downwards, causing bronchitis. Sometimes the cough is the only symptom.

  • I had a chronic cough for over a nearly two years - coughed all day every day. I went to various ENT and internal medicine docs. The numerous sprays, syrups, etc. did nothing. The last ENT I saw suggested taking a teaspoon of honey at night before bed. He put me on the famous purple pill Nexium once a day. He said as we get older, particles are more likely to "float" into the esophagus and cause a chronic cough. Now instead of coughing all day every day, I only cough occasionally when I'm some place where there isn't air moving about. I now take the purple pill only when the cough seems to return which is rare. Two days back on Nexium and it is gone again. This is quite a miracle after all the junk I was prescribed that did NOTHING.:)
