Chest pains

Some quick background first:
* name: Sebastian
* 35 year old male
* smoker
* slightly overweight
* reasonably fit
* borderline high blood pressure 130/75

I have had a tightness in the chest for months now. I have seen a doctor and had chest xray, blood and urine tests all came back OK.

The tightness comes on at random times - not related to exercise or level of activity. IT also seems to be separate from breathing patterns. The tightness is felt right in the center of the sternum and sometimes the upper back. Half of the time the tightness causes shortness of breath. Other times the tightness comes with short stabbing pains which are very uncomfortable. This problem is very frustrating and at time scary. Sometimes I can go 3 - 4 days with no pain or tightness. Other times I have it constantly for days at a time.

If ANYONE has any advice or possible diagnosis for these symptoms, I would be very happy to hear about them. Thanks.

  • Have you had a ecg? How were your cholesterol levels?Hi and thanks for the reply. No, I have not had an ecg. My doctor did not relay what my cholesterol levels were. She only said that everything was in the normal range.Do you have any suggestions on what the problem could be, and what I could tell the doctor to look for\test? Thanks
