Chest Pain When Breathing Unrelated to Heart?

many times i get this feeling when i breathe in which i can only describe as a painful expanding of my lungs. it feels as though the spongey tissue is separating, which i'm sure it is, but quite painfully.

i liken the feeling to the sensation one gets when running very hard and then attempting to catch one's breath (i am speaking of running for at least a mile). that feeling that accompanies the "out-of-breath" sensation is very much comparable to what i feel, only without feeling the shortness of breath. does this make sense?

anyways, lately i have also been experiencing moderate chest pain, although i would rate it more as a discomfort than pain.

i do not believe this pain to be related to my heart, which is what i've heard most.

oh yeah, i'm 25, recently stopped smoking (month ago or more - not a heavy smoker when i did smoke anyways), drink moderately, practice hatha yoga, and am reasonably out of shape.

thanks in advance for all your help.

  • I can't honestly make an educated decision based upon what you explain. It certainly could be some sorta pericardial inflammation of the sac that holds the heart, it could also be some sorta issue within the pleural space of your lungs. I would of course suggest visiting a doctor and just by them auscultating (listening) to your chest should be able to lead them to whatever issue you may be having. Best of luck with it's resolution!
