I am a 23 year old male and have been having chest pains now for several years.

The pains began at night (on my right side of chest) and made it hard to get in a comfortable position. it was like stabing pains to move but these often went away after 10 mins.

About 18 months ago these got bad and I went to the doctor. the doc said it was a pulled mustle and gave me cream.

The pain occured occassionally

About 10 months ago I had the pain for about three weeks constant. I found it hard to drive as the pain would go down my arm. The pain also was beginning to occur on the left side as well. I went to the docs who said it was bourne holmes disease and that there was no treatment but it would go away in my 30's

The pain has been reoccuring since for maybe a week at a time. A few weeks ago i had it in the centre of my chest and went again to the docs who said it was an inflammed lung and to take pain killers and it would go away (no anti inflammatories due to asthma). I got my heart scaned and all is clear.

The pains are back and on both side and sometimes in the centre. I have been told so many different things and the last doc said that it wasn't bourne holmes.

Thanks for any help in advance

  • Bourne -Holmes Disease MY Mother - who is a doctor, My sister, My sister's Doctor( who's Mother is a doctor) all have somethig similar !! I was visiting my Mother last weekend and had an 'attack' It got so bad that eventually I called an ambulance as I felt that I would have looked pretty silly if I had keeled over and died !! After many investigations four Doctord decided ---- It was Bourne-Holmes disease!! Sometimes it is so painful that it is one of those things that if you haven't experiencedd it the you can't imagine.. Seriously , BEWARE - If you have a pain that is similar but not the same do not ignore it as like me you may look very silly if one day you say to your friends - Oh don't worry I know what this is and then Drop Dead !!!Good Luck It is nice to know that there is another suffere out there. A Tip : Drink ice cold water - it helps , sometimes ....gileswilson@hotmail.com

  • It's spelled Bornholm's disease. Try here: http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/9339/24699.html If it isn't getting any better soon I would ask to see the doctor again.
