I have an abnormal bulge right where my kidney is on the left flank of my back. I have had a number of kidney infections, it is painful when i sit stand, i am driving and go over a bump, or lie on my left hand side. I neee to use the bathroom alot more then what is considered is normal and it hurts to have a bowel movement.
No one is able to tell my what the problem is.

I accquired this bulge after i was attacked at work with a knife.
I am becoming desperate to find out what the problem is and i don't know where else to go for help or where to look

Can anyone part with some information as to what this may or may not be?

Thank you for your help in advance

  • Could it be scar tissue? Is that where the knife attack was? Or possibly scarring on the kidney from infections. The other problems sound like they might be a result of the kidney having trouble. Organ scarring can cause a host of other troubles, because the scar tissue is much harder than the organs original tissue it can mess with its regular function even if the organ isn't otherwise currently infected.

  • Where u injured in this area ? maybe scar tissue causing prob. Really you need to have tests done to see if ur kidney is functioning right. Could also be kidney stones. Best to go to docs & go for tests. Best wishes :)

  • Hi Tootsie Yeah i have had all of those things done, kidney apparently working fine. And scar tissue isnt the problem. I should have mentioned all of that. I have had CT scan done and an ultrasound done as well. It the bulge protrudes about 1.5 inches. and is painful. In regards to the bowel movement when i had the surgery apparently the Surgeons found that there was no scarring or damage there. But if i remember correctly the bowel/large intestine has moved from a "normal" position. But the bulge and the kidney are the painful ones. Thank you again for your thoughts

  • The only other thing i can think of is a rupture/hernia. Did u have this buldge when u had tests done or has it appeared since ? If it is this it can be easily fixed. Sorry i have to go to work now, i will check in later this evening in the mean time some of the other members may be able to shed more light on it. Regards :)

  • You've had those scans done since the lump developed? Theres no chance its some sort of tumor is there? How quickly did the lump develop?

Thank you for your help in advanceIn 2002 i had two major kidney surgery two months a part, that left me having a left flank hernia surgery nine months later. it left me with a bluge on my left side and a hard scar tissue on the left side. i have complained for year of pain and discomfort in my side and back. i feel a large like tumor feeling in there. i have had all kinds of test and they have told me the scar tissue is what is keeping the intestents together and i will have to live with it. they said if i had surgery to remove the scar tissue it make it worst. i am very unconfortable all the time. wish i could give you better news.m
