I am a 17 year old male and around a month and a half ago found a small lump under my left nipple. I went to the doctor and was given Brufen tablets but after about 3 weeks there was no change and so i went back. She has now booked me into a screening clinic to check it out.

I decided to look around the internet and found that male breast cancers are very rare, especially at my age, and that the most likely cause was Gynecomastia.

However, around the lump i sometimes get uncomfortable pains, especially when sitting for long periods of time (such as in school).

Does anyone have any ideas of what they think it may be?

Thanks

  • Ideas on what it could be... I am not a doctor but cancer runs in my family so I had to learn about what to look for myself as far as lumps and bumps go.Men (males) can indeed get breast cancer. One of my male cousins got breast cancer. Does breast cancer in males or females run in your family? How about ovarian cancer in your family? If so, that may increase your risk of breast cancer. My family has both breast cancer and ovarian cancer in the ladies; and 1 male with breast cancer. We have a BRCA1 mutation and a cluster of cases. Now that lump could be things like an infection, benign cyst like a lipoma (benign fatty tumor/lump) or fibroma (benighn fibrous tumor/lump) or a cancer (malignant tumor) etc.... it needs checking out asap, though. Don't delay. Fortunately you are young... so the risk should be lower because of your age but you just don't know until a lump like this gets tested. Hopefully the lump won't be cancer and will be something benign and you can post back and tell us the good news. But don't wait too long because if it was cancer in the breast he earlier a breast cancer gets diagnosed the better the outcome usually. • My 19 year old nephew had the same thing. Turned out to be a fibroadenoma - no big deal.

  • You may want to check into a bone growth. Is it real hard, soft to the touch? Would suggest seeing a bone doctor.
