hey...i'm 18 years old female and i need help figuring out what is wrong with me. i hope someone can help!
i've had this pain in my right lower side of my abdomen/stomach area. if you take your finger and measure aprox. an inch below your belly button to the right thats where it is. when i was about 14 or so i went to the hospital thinking it was appendicitis (my mom is a nurse so thats what she expected it was). well after a lot of tests we figured out thats not what it was and nothing was found. well after that happened it went away for a bit and about 2 years later it started bothering me again. well this time we decided to get my right ovary checked out just to be sure it wasn't in my ovary. got an untrasound, nothing found.
well ever since, i've had a little pain but nothing too serious, but the last 3-4 weeks this pain has increased. i can't figure out what it is and no one will give me an answer. i have a doctors appointment later this week but how am i going to be sure that THEY'LL know what it is after all i've been through?
can someone PLEASE help me?

to describe the pain, at times it is a dull ache, but if i've been sitting down for a while and get up and walk around it really really bothers me. also it hurts if i'm laying down on my back, almost like im stretching. there have been times when it has even gotten sharp. i really hope someone can help.....any answers would be greatly appriciated.

  • Ovarian cysts, are you sexually active? infection maybe? go to an OBGYN, see what they say. if it ovarian cysts have them put you on birth control pills. sorry not much help.:(

  • sounds like ovarian cysts. or possibly an ovarian tumor. the pain you describe is exactly like the pain i had when i had tumors on my ovaries. and an ultrasound did not find these tumors either. i have to have a ct scan with IV contrast to fine them. so, i suggest you see a GYN and if you don't get an answer from one, move on to another. you are still very young and if you don't get help for your ovaries now, you may have lots of fertility issues in the future. believe me, i have been there. i have PCOS, which consists of lots of cysts on the ovaries, but i seem to have tumors instead of cycts. they prescribe birth control pills because they are supposed to suppress the cycts. most people who have PCOS start having symptoms in their teens. so you need to see a gyn who specializes in PCOS or ovarian issues. i wish you the best.

  • thank you guys for the responses! couple things.... i already am on birth control (and that hasn't seemed to help the pain. it seems like it's made it worse if anything). and i am sexually active but the location of the pain doesn't make sense. it seems like it would be too high up for my ovary, and i haven't really had any problems with my periods besides normal cramping. my periods haven't affected the pain severeity at all. i mean maybe you guys are right....but is there anything else it could possibly be? it just seems like it is too high up for my ovary and i had thourough testing done when i went in for apendicitis because they thought it could be my ovary and nothing was found. also, i dont know if this could be relevant since you guys are talking about ovaries, when my boyfriend and i have sex there isn't any pain caused there, so i'm clueless as well because i thought it was my ovary also. but now i'm unsure! any other suggestions?

  • watch to see if the pain is about two weeks after your period. This might be ovulation that is causing pain. Check with your OBGYN when you have the pain. Does the pain only last for a couple of days???

  • I had similar symptoms right before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I used to have a lot of sharp pain where I could barely move and when I got gas in me it would hurt worse and I would have to burp a few times to make it fell better. For the gas thing maybe try taking a Beano before eating. Maybe you are just experincing gas pains. Or make an appoinment with a gastratrologist expecially if the pain is in your stomach/abdominal!!! He can do a upper GI and do some biopsys see if you are experincing symtoms from an ulcer or if you might even have celiac disease/something else. I would deffinitly go to a gastratrologist. But until then try beano or some other gas reliever.Good Luck!!!

  • When I was 12 i started having pains in my rt abdomin as well, they at first ruled out my appendixs since I didn't have an elevated white cell count and all the tests showed it as pink and healthy. After many tests for other things and being hospitalized almost monthly for the pain my dr decided to do exploritory surgery and removed my appendixs will he was at it as a precaution. It turns out it was the right call, I had an ulcer inside my appendix. Once it was removed the pain went away.

    8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • My son had pain like this and it was Meckles diverticulitis caused by a rare birth defect found in about 2% of the population according to our surgeon. It can get infected and seem like an appendicitis attack. Nuts and seeds can get stuck in it, and cause trouble. It is the remnants of what used to be the umbilical cord...from the inside. It forms a pocket in the intestine, and things get caught in it.Another thing it could be is ovulatory pain...I have terrible pain every month, 2 weeks before my period that lasts several hours and is almost what I would call a cramping pain. The first time it ever happened I ended up in the ER because it was so painful. We were sure it was an appendicitis attack. I know all about undiagnosed pain...I had a terrible case of Pleurisy and a pleural effusion in my lung for months that no one could find. I was in screaming pain about 12 hours a day from October until the following April, and the people in the ER and most of the Specialists that I went to were angry with me for being in pain, and several even suggested I see a psychiatrist!! It happened almost 4 years ago and I am still angry at how I was treated because of their complete incompetence! A CT scan w/ drinkable Contrast is what saved me from killing myself!! It showed us beautifully, and the technicians who found the source of the problem cried they were so happy that the mystery was solved! They were also angry that I had been misdiagnosed for so long, and treated so badly. Good luck!! I hope this helped.
