  • From this web site: http://www.emedicine.com/EMERG/topic347.htm "OS disease is typically a benign and self-limited condition that waxes and wanes but often takes months to years to resolve entirely."

  • I am 60 and have had this disease since I was 12. I worked for a world-renowned orthopaedic surgeon, and he says it is caused by a kneecap that sits too high which causes the patellar tendon to be inflamed, thus resulting in the enlarged tibial tuberosity. Stretching of the hamstrings and back of the legs is important. With both feet on the ground, stretch your spine up; and, while keeping that length, bend over and put your hands on the ground or on a chair (whatever you can reach). Hold this position for 30 seconds at least. You can also stretch one leg at a time by placing one leg forward and one leg back, stretching your spine up to the ceiling, and then laying your torso forward onto the forward leg while keeping your back straight. Also hold for at least 30 seconds. Yoga has been the key to dealing with this disease for me and makes it so that I can do anything I want (including playing soccer with my grandkids).
