My friend woke up Easter morning and couldn't swallow solid food. went DR gave her antibiotic. Didn't help. They have done all kinds of tests and don't know what's wrong. A video swallow was done and showed the right side of her throat her swallowing muscles aren't working. She has no gag reflex. She's have minor pain in her right leg. the other day her arm started tingling and feeling numb, and shooting pains in her shoulder that went away 2-3 hours later. They did an MRI with contrast and didn't show anything. Now she can not sweat. If she gets hot, her head starts feeling weird and on fire.
She is only 30 years old and hardly ever sick until now.
Any suggestions on what might be going on with her so maybe she can get her Dr check.

  • has she been tested for Lyme?Does she have ANY other symptoms? When she cannot sweat, is she having areas of "redness" with "warmth" or "heat" associated? Is it contained to her face and upper body? How is her nutritional intake? If she can't swallow solids, is she eating pureed, mashed foods or just taking liquids?

She was eating mashed potatoes but now can't eat that. Liqiuds only now. They've checked her for lymes, ms, stroke, cancer and others. She can't sweat any where and when she gets warm her head gets real feeling. She's been getting some tingling and pain in some of her limbs that come and go.??

  • Has Lupus been considered? It seems as though neuropathy is occuring, which could be difficult to id a cause. Good Luck!

  • Sorry to repeat, but anhidrosis is a symptom of Guillan-Barre. Has she had a spinal tap?

  • I realized some things after my last post. Damage to the 10th cranial nerve (vagus) can be responsible for an inability to sweat and loss of the gag reflex. If I remember correctly, the # of the nerve corresponds to the order it enters the brainstem relative to the other cranial nerves. The 11th cranial nerve (spinal accessory) can have an impact on the neck and shoulders. The integrity of this nerve can be tested by raising her shoulder and turning her head. I am not sure about the pain in her leg, but a nerve that enters the spinal cord is more likely involved (if it is neurological in nature) than a cranial nerve (one that enters the brainstem). I am not a doctor so this is entirely based on postulation!! I am basing my reply on a few graduate neuroscience courses I have taken. At any rate, if she hasn't seen a neurologist it seems like it would be highly worth a shot. I hope this helps!

Any suggestions on what might be going on with her so maybe she can get her Dr check. It's been a few weeks now:My friend has started sweating again, except for under her arms. The Drs keep mentioning ALS to her, but no one has checked her for it. She has no insurance so no one wants to do anything for her. Her symptoms are getting worse. Her tongue is now having tremors also her right arm and leg are having tremors too. Her tremors come and go. Sometimes she has pain too.She went and saw a Md. Was told she now has no reflexes in her arm or leg on right side. Dr told her she needed a spinal tap. Still didn't order her one. She saw a Neurologist last week, said didn't know what was wrong but it was something rare. Said it could be ALS. Then made her an appointment to come back in October. Every time she sees a Dr they want to pass her off to someone else or make an appointment way down the road so she won't come back. Any suggestions as to what would cause her to have all these problems to only one side of her body?

  • If you would like to help her, find someone local who does NAET/Bioset therapy.Google info on it...find testimonials...I will be writing one soon...I am living proof it works.Coincidentally I went to a party of friends last night and was told a story about a girl who was "saved" with NAET...I followed that story with my own about Bioset...which is "related" to NAET.You won't believe the improvement after just 3 treatments...I've had 6 and my symptoms are 90% resolved.Wishing you the best....mommy cat
