I am hoping someone can help me. I have been in a chronic lower right abdominal pain now for 4 months. After visiting the emergencey department the first, the surgeon determine I did not have appendicities, but wanted to do further testing the next day. The next day consisted of multiple x-rays, a CT scan, Ultrasound and more blood tests.
Results from that day were: Platelets high -- enlarged lymph nodes in lower right abdomen, and enlarged spleen. The surgeon then concluded it was probably a bacterial infection and gave me 15 days prescription of Flagyl and Cipro but informed me within 5 days should be feeling relief.
5 days later I end up seeing the surgeon again, still in a lot of pain, he determines he will need to do a laparascopy to see if he can see anything unusual and possible remove a lymph node for biopsy. I am told the ovary was a bit larger then expected and so was the cervix, appendix looked very healthy and had an ovarian cyst , but very small would not be causing me any pain. After that surgery I was back on the 2 previous medications while I waited for the results.
Biopsy showed the lymph node was reactive - which I am told could mean many things. I am told to continue taking the 2 previous meds, plus now I am prescribed ketorolac and tylenol 3 w/codeine and prednisone.
3 weeks later after multiple visits to family doctor and surgeon I undergo surgery #2, completed by the same surgeon and assisted by the gyneocologist. I consent to having my appendix removed and also the right ovary if gyno sees the need for it. During that surgery they did remove my appendix and the ovarian cyst, but the gyno saw nothng unusual, so left the ovary in tact.
Pathology report came back on my appendix and showed I did indeed have acute appendicities - this is 6 weeks after my pain first came. Platelets still high and spleen still enlarged.
The sugeon left shortly after this surgery and since then everything has been very slow moving. I recently had a ultrasound done and it showed a 1cm pocket of fluid in my lower right abdomen, platelets currently at 511, the pain gets worse every second month during the first couple days of my menstrual cycle, but pain never ever goes away completely.
I had met with an Internist, and he told me it was a pulled muscle and a shot of cortisone in the abdomen would fix the problem for now. So I tried to tell him that i did not agree with this diagnoses and he very rudely asked if I was a doctor. So I went along with it, and go figure the shot did not work.
Recently I have been having a lot of vaginal discharge to go along with this pain and also severe headaches including episodes of blacking out and temporary loss of eye sight in my right eye. I wen to an eye doctor to ensure nothing wrong with my eyes. My eyes haven't changed in 4 years, and he decided to send me to a specialist just for a field test to ensure there was nothing he was missing. Everything came back fine.
Now I am just waiting for another CT scan on the 23 of this month, which in my opinion is going to show nothing more then it did the first time, and a Colonoscopy on the 24 to see if it is the upper bowel causing the problems.
I am a single mom with a 4 year old and this is really taking a toll on both of us because somedays it is too pain for me to even get up in the morning, other days I can do some physical activities with her, but I definately pay for it later.
Please anyone with any type of answers please please please let me know. :(
