Can't drink or eat anything

I have been to the ER twice, I have a urinary tract infection, they think it's in my kidneys, they gave me IV antibiotics, gent, I think. I kept telling them this, but they haven't listened and dismiss it. And I am getting desperate for any ideas.

I get fever, chills, nausea, vomiting and bad abdonimal pain about 2-3 hours after I drink or eat anything. It has happened 3 times over 3 days. The doctors kept blaming my infection. I told them it was the liqiuds and food that were bringing it on, I had water, and cranberry juice, and pizza twice, half a bowl of chicken soup.

The soup brought out the worst reaction, as well as having 1-2 litres of water. I think the liquids are the biggest cause.

I am still going through some pain, but after vomiting all liqiuds and whatever solids were left, I felt better, the chill, fever, and nausea all got better. I stopped eating, and drinking, I am only using ice chips and the occasional cracker. I am still not sure what this means, and my doctors have been no help, so far. I am still getting IV antibiotic treatments, and I'm hoping the doctors will start listening.

Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions? I have had little luck so far.

  • I had a kidney infection a month or two ago and I had the same thing whenever I ate or drank all I could do was go to bed. It is the infection and sadly the best way (as well as the drugs) is to eat and drink. It's just something you have to get through before you get better.Good luck to you because it's going to be sore.

  • Thank you. :) I guess this is just going to be a bad week, or two. I just wish the thing I need most, fluids and solids, weren't going down so bad. Hopefully the treatments will start helping. Lanadiel

  • I hope it goes better than mine. I could not eat food for, I think, about 5 days. Even the doctors thought it was unusually bad. I could only drink small sips of juice/water. I highly recommend ice chips, it was the only way I could take and keep down anything. I actually took juice and froze it in the ice cube tray, then crushed it.I had to get daily IV treatments, for a week, in the hospital. But they also gave me IV fluids with treatments due to my severe dehydration. Then 10 days of oral antibiotics. I had a bad case. I hope I'm not the normal patient. My body did things it just should not have done, heart rate went way too high, then blood pressure went crazy. It can be scary, especially to watch. The pills will help, eventually. It was just way too slow, for me. In the end you do recover, it is just painfully slow. And not pleasant. And the doctors just say "that's normal", and don't say that until it is over you will be miserable.
