Can't drink anything cold

Hi everyone,

I'd be really grateful for any tips on what may cause my problem and how to overcome it.

Immediately after I drink anything cold I suffer from throat problems. When I was a child it usually resulted in rather severe throat infections with high temperature and so it was pretty often that I had to take antibiotics. A few years ago (I'm almost 23 now) I discovered I could drink cold beer and nothing wrong happened. Unfortunately, it had been that way only until I was 20. I have had a few laryngitis since then and I'm currently curing myself from another laryngitis and take an antibiotic.

It has become a pretty difficult problem for me. It affects my social life as I can't drink anything when being at a party or especially at discos, where everything they serve is usually ice cold which means I have stopped drinking anything is such places.

I should probably add that I have a cist in my left nasal sinus.

Again, I'll be grateful for all your suggestions.

Christopherr

  • Hi, I know there are some people with similar problem but it seems there is very few of us. Does your husband have any ideas what can possibly cause such intolerance to cold drinks? When I was younger I also prefered room temperature drinks. However, I got so fed up with my problem that, to avoid any possible laryngitis, I started to add hot water to all I drink. It seems to have made the situation even worse as I have probably made it very sensitive and so it cannot accept anything even of room temperature. All I drink is tea, coffee and hot water:mad: . Imagine being 23 and drink only these. It's so irritating:mad: . Christopherr

I had broncitis when I was 31 and didn't get treatment right away. Ever since then (I'm 48), whenever I drink or eat anything cold and it's dry out or I've just gotten over a head cold (which is always), I cough and cough. I did discover a "remedy" that will stop my coughing and this is nice because I can do cold stuff. If I drink as much hot water as I drank cold stuff, the coughing stops immediately.
