My husband has been suffering for over 8 years now with a strange ailment we have not been able to find a definition for. He is a recovering alcoholic - sober since 1999. However whenever he comes into contact with hydro-carbons such as (alcohol or anything that ends in ol) he gets severe withdrawl like symptoms that last for 3 days. (vomiting, shakes, blurred vision, etreme pain in his brain and spinal cord - which he describes as "razor blades down my spine") Because of this, he has been forced to live a life that is becoming more and more restricted. He wears gloves because he cannot touch someone's hands that has cream on it, he has an extremely limited diet (no fruit, no sugars, no oils, etc) He hasn't been to a restaurant in years. He has been taking amino acids and vitamin B1 and thiamin. They seemed to help at first, but the symptoms seem to always come back. At one point we thought he might have some kind of severe alcoholic neuropathy. But his symptoms are so much more severe than what we read is normal for neuropathies. We have been to alot of different doctors. We have tried traditional medicine and holistic medicine, and eastern medicine and anything we could find. So far, we have no answers.
Does anyone know what this is and where we might go to get some answers?
