About 2 weeks I began experiencing chest pressure which would turn a little painful at times. Went to the hopsital and had an EKG and chest X-Ray done, both normal. Dr had me on hypertension meds for a while and said that it could be the meds or might be acid reflux. I started taking prilosec and stopped the hypertension meds, under dr supervision (wasn't taking them too long anyways). Chest pressure decreased quite a bit since I went of the meds a few days ago but chest still hurts when something like a seatbelt is put across it. Its almost like the pressure from the seatbelt aggravates the pressure in my chest? When I pull the seatbelt back it relieves the pressure. Same thing happens when I'm wearing my jacket and it presses up in some weird way against my chest. Pressure is usually located at or around the sternum and it seems the worst when something lightly presses on it. What could this be?!?!

  • Screw the cancer-jerks; don't let them scare you.Sounds like costrochondritis (sp?). It's an inflammation of the cartilage where the ribs meet the sternum. Nothing dangerous, but painful.I'm afraid I'm not sure what to do about it. Maybe see an orthopedic? Won't show on X-rays. I don't know if antibiotics would help. The ortho may know more or know who to refer you to.Good luck.

  • Niggle,I love your "name" that you post under. And I agree with you...that was my first thought, also.http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/sprainsstrains/a/costochondritis.htm has a basic overview, and if you (original poster) find it useful, great. If it doesn't sound like what you've got, come back and explain what is different.Shula

  • Please do not listen to anything Shula or Acuann tell you. My sister just passed away because Shula and Acuann told her that her doctor was wrong and she did not have a serious condition. Acuann even told her to get acupuncture to get healed. These people are going to be investigated for practicing medicine without a license. Shula and Acuann are specifically wanted in connection with my sisters homocide. Thats right homocide. If she would have listened to her doctor instead of these internet quacks she would still be here today. Rest assured I will do everything in my power to put these two behind bars and shut this website down for good.
