I have had a burning sensation in my right leg since Oct. 2007.
I also have the same thing in my upper right arm.
I had a cat scan, MRI, nerve conduction test which all showed nothing but minimal carpal tunnel which they only gave me a brace and said wear it when you need it.
My leg is more severe than the arm. It usually starts at bedtime when I lay down and I coat it down with IcyHot or muscle rub of some sort to get some relief to be able to sleep. The pain starts in my hip and goes to just above my knee. It is now becoming more severe and bothering me during the day.
The last visit to my local MD I told him I had given up, but will go back in a few days to tell him he must find something to ease the discomfort.
I don't know, but I've seen other posts with pinched nerves or MS that have related symptoms.
Any ideas!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi burning pain can be a symptom of multiple sclerosis, although I have never read of thsi only happeninga t night when lying down. You have already had an MRI, but you could request a lumbar puncture. Rarely someone can have MS that doesn't show up on an MRi, but does show up in a lumbar puncture. If you have this though and everything is normal, then you don't have MS.I have nerve pain like yours that is burning and sometimes they just can't find a cause. But other causes may include B12 deficiency and diabetes, so you should be tested for these. However even if the Dr's don't know what is causing the pain they should be treating it. Painkillers such as aspirin, parecetomal, codeine and even morphine don't have that much effect on this type of pain. Instead other drugs such as amitriptyline and some anti- epilepsy drugs are used. Acupuncture can also help some people along with TENS machines.

  • Could be shingles or a herpes virus...shingles without an outbreak and likewise for those herpes viruses..
