bruising and bone pain?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what might be going on with me. I am a 25 yr old female with alot of health problems...migranes, had gull bladder removed, problems with one of my breast (which is being looked into), history of some abnormal paps (I have one of the high risk strains of HPV), among some other things. I suspect it is from me having endometrosis, which they are now thinking is an autoimmune disease.
My ? is about 2 yrs ago I started having really bad pain in the bone in my leg, my shin bone???. I went to the dr, he said I was having bone pain but didn't know why, gave me some vicodins and sent me on my way. I still have the leg pain, but in the last 3 mnths or so both of my thighs have been covered in bruises. All except one of them are fingertip size. On any given day there are 15 - 30 on each leg with a couple of them being on the rest of my leg. There is also one about the size of a baseball on the inside part of my knee that has been there itself for about 3 mnths. Somedays it will look red like it is in the stages of healing, but then the next day it will be back to the bruise. None of these hurt. What could they be from.
Someone on another forum suggested that I was anemic. After I had my son 6 mnths ago it came back that I was anemic. They put me on iron pills for a mnth and that was that. But if it was caused from that wouldn't I be getting bruises everywhere and not just mostly the thighs/legs.
Another suggested that maybe the leg pain is related to the bruising but if that was the case wouldn't either both legs hurt, or wouldn't just the leg that does hurt be the only leg to bruise.
Another suggested a bleeding disorder. When I got pregnant with my son my OB done bloodwork on me to try and determine why I lost my little girl so late in my pregnancy. It came back I had MTHFR mutation gene, Protien S defiency and Protien C defency. I had to go to a specialitst, take baby aspirin, and shots of Lovenox. After the pregnancy I was refered to a diff. specialits, he said it sounded like I had the opps. problem of not being able to clot as opposed to clotting to easy. But done blood work and said I was borderline on still having one of them, but nothing to worry about and didn't have the other anymore. Of course the MTHFR mutation gene I will always have. Is it possible that since those was pregnancy induced that maybe when I am not pregnant my blood does not clot like it should and then when I am pregnant it clots to easy? Or that maybe these clotting disorders have come back?
Sorry this is so long. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thank you

  • I dont know what could be causing your problem but wanted to comment about something you said.. (I may make some other comments about another thing you said later, Im thinking about it). I too carry the MTHFR mutation gene. I suppose you did also get told the other things this can put one at high risk of, along with the increased risk of miscarriage .. It also puts one at high risk of heart attack and strokes. Due to the high risk the MTHFR mutation gene causes of these things, my specialist has told me to take folic acid daily for life which takes away the heart attack and stroke risk caused by this gene. (I dont know if that has any affects on the other risks caused by this gene or not, he didnt mention that). (One also needs to make sure one has plenty of B12 cause of this too, the folic acid will not help if there isnt enough B12 in the body). (The stroke/heart attack increased risk caused by this gene, if preventative measures are not taken, is equal to or higher than having high cholestrol).

  • from http://www.oncologychannel.com/leukemias/symptoms.shtml .. just in cause you've got other symptoms you didnt mention... Signs and Symptoms The first indications of leukemia often are nonspecific or vague. They may occur with other cancerous as well as noncancerous disorders. Although signs and symptoms vary for each type of leukemia, there are some general features. Broad symptoms of leukemia may include:FatigueMalaise (vague feeling of bodily discomfort)Abnormal bleedingExcessive bruisingWeaknessReduced exercise toleranceWeight lossBone or joint painInfection and feverAbdominal pain or "fullness"Enlarged spleen, lymph nodes, and liver ....................................... http://www.hemex.com/ specialises in blood clotting problems etc by doing tests that most other labs dont. They may be good to contact to find out if you can get your blood analysed by them..

  • Thank you guys for replying!Actually when the specialist nurse called me about the results on the lab work I asked her about the MTHFR and if I needed to be on any meds for it. She said that was a good ? and she would ask the dr and call me back. She called back and said no, if you don't feel comfortable taking not taking anything for it then you can continue taking the aspirin, but if you feel comf. enough then you don't need to worry about it.I did wonder though. I will call them and talk to them about this. Thank you so much!As far as the other symptoms, I am always tired and have a feeling of being worn down. Like if you have the flu or something and you are so tired, but that tends to run in my family for some reason...lol.No, my ring nor shoe size has ever went up.I am extremly upset with my dr. right now. I had orginally went to him for the bone pain. He did not do any xrays, blood work, nothing. Said I was having bone pain but he did not know why. Gave me vicodins sent me on my way. I went in today for the leg pain and bruising. He says how come you are on so many meds? ( I am on 1 med everyday to prevent migranes, 2 in case I get a bad miagrane and my ADD med.) I told him 3 of the 4 are for miagranes w/2 not taking everyday. He said oh, well some of this bruising could be caused by meds. I said okay then what about the leg pain, if you remember I have come to you for this before. He says oh, thats right. Then says you know you need to lose weight (okay for one, I had my son 6 mnths ago and have lost 30 pnds since, for 2 I am like 15-20 pnds overweight at the most.) He said that could be where some of the pain and bruising is coming from, from being so overweight. I said well I just had my son 6 mnths ago and I am one of those people who tend to gain 70-80 pnds when preg. He starts laughing, says well don't ever get pregnant agian. (okay the time I came to him before for the pain I was not overweight) I told him I have the pain everyday. Somedays I can tolerate it other days it hurts so bad I just want to cry. He said have you tried taking one of your vicodins for it. I said yes a couple of times and it doesn't help at all. He said not at all, thats strange. Then said well here are your scripts and gave me a script for 60 vicodins then walked out of the room. Once agian no xrays, no blood work, no diagnosis, nothing....I am so frustrated right now! :(

  • You should have a standard blood workup done a CBC with differential. My daughter had leg pain and bruising and it turned out to be leukemia. Also try taking prenatal vitamins for anemia they work great. You need all your B vitamins to absorb the iron and you get it all in one package with the prenatal vitamins.Good Luck,Angie

  • I'd get another opinion. This doctor sounds callous to me. Not everything can be attributed to weight.

  • I know not to mention like I said, the leg pain started before I got pregnant, when if anything I was to skinny. Right now I am maybe about 20 pnds overweight. I wear a size 9 in juniors pants. So...wouldn't you think that isn't to bad, not to mention I would think if weight was the cause it would be hurting both legs...Agian I say thank you guys so much for your advice:)

  • Hi, I know this post is 3 years old, but I think I was suppose to find it, and see what has happened to you in 3 years. I have had the EXACT same symptoms. First migraine, had gall bladder removed, cyst in breast, and just tested for autoimmune. (No Autoimmune) My son is also 6 months old where I was aneimic during pregnancy, and I too have MTHFR. However the homozygote of C677T. My main concern in the extreme bone pain which also started in my leg (Shin) my doctor too said just shin splints and no explanations. The pain is daily and in several bones and now joints. A different spot each day. I too have just started bruising only in my legs, but similar to what you have described. This has been 6 weeks, and I don't know where to go next. Any help on what you have found in the past 3 years would be awesome!!!
