Hello everyone, i have posted here before becasue of this problem. It has been a while now, I have gotten better at times but somedays (such as today I feel really really bad). Here are my symptoms:

-Breathing through nose seems as if it is not "enough" and I feel like I need to gasp for air through my mouth every 20sec-1min or two
-Breathing through my nosehas always been a bit difficult, like for example one nostril will work while the other does very little (like when exhailing)
-When I breathe out through my mouth there is a "clicking" or "popping" sound from the back of my throat that is loud enough to ehere people around me can hear it
-I have experienced tingling hands(most common), arms, feet, legs. When this happens I feel pretty weak. (mightb e due to anxiety caused by other symptoms)
-When I smallow (like saliva) I get a sensation as if I am about to choke or something, this is very scary.
-Sometimes (rare, but for about maybe two years now, maybe more) I wake up with like NO breath and I gasp for air, after a few minutes I feel fine but this is HORRIFYING and I am now a little afraid of sleeping so I only do it when I have to (5-7hrs)
-Like before, I have lost most of my apetite again, before I used to eat TOO much, now there are days whre I eat nothing or very little
-Recently I have felt the urge to throw up, A LOT
-Because of all this I have literally been to scared to do physical activities and a few days ago after running from my dad's truck into the house I felt winded (I played football for two years, and rarely felt THIS winded, I just usually got tired)

I have been to the doctor about 5times now, since the begining of the summer (a little over 2months now). I have also seen an ENT. The doctors were not consistant. First one (only seen him once) said post nasal drip, gavem a nasal spray and antihystamines. A little less than a week after that I felt really bad again, this doctor (We'll call him Dr.L) thought it was strange I was given the nasal spray and the pills as pollen counts or w/e were all down, he hooked me up to an EKG (I think, the heart thing) and did blood tests, everything seemed normal. Then after feeling realy bad again, I was rushed to the local Kaiser hospital by my parents, this third different doctor (Dr.B) checked me out, noticed my EKG and blood tests were normal so he X-Rayed my chest, after that he gave me an inhaler (which I later learned was for asthma, but he said it would help with bronchal spasms). Then after a while I felt a little better but my dad wanted to have an ENT look at me, so he set up an appointment for me. It was Dr.L again, he thought it was strange, since it had been about 3-4 weeks(maybe a bit more) since I saw him, he told me the inhaler has basicly for asthma and after taking a quick look at me he said he would set an urgent referall for me to see an ENT. Now, the ENT basicly used his littlescope to check me out, said everything seemed normal, no growths or anything that could mess with my breathing. After discribing all of my symptoms he (as Dr.L had mentioned before) said it could al just be panic attacks, and said he would refer me to the mental specialists or w/e to see if that was it, its been a while and I havent heard from them.
The main reason I am posting here again is because for a few weeks (although symptoms were still there) they were MUCH less mild and bearable, but now I have started school, I find myself having to breath "hard" at times, feeling as if I am going to choke each time I swallow saliva (which makes me like twitch a little in frustration). I really need help! To me it seems to be a mixture of a few things. 1) A problem I have had for a while with my nose 2) A possible sleeping disorder (sleep apnea?) 3) eitehr a chest, lung, or throat proble 4)Panic/anxiety caused by my horrible symptoms.

ME: I am 17 about 6'1-6'2 about 205lbs (dropped about 15-20lbs because of this sickness) no prior serious health problems.Something that I have pretty much always have had: nose problems, Tonssil problems, and now that I think of it I am a VERY nervous person (but I know this anxiety is not the ONLY problem)

Family: History of diabetes with uncles and grandparents. My dad(39) had suffered from really bad panic attacks about 6-8 years ago because of "stress from work" (according to the doc's). My little brother(13) had a panic attack about 4 days before I started feeling bad (He was stressing over his grades near the end of last year) and he began to have cough/clearing throat/brething difficulties this escalded to where he was VERY cold, arms were numb and had trouble breathing, I called 911 as my father tried to calm him down, that was the scariest night of my life. My mother(39) is healthy and has been ever since I could remember, and my littel sister(7) has no simlar problems although she has begun to clear her throat quite often, doc said it was most likely a tic as she is perfectly healthy.

I am REALLY desperate right now, I pray a lot, hoping that God will hopefully chose to help me through this. I was also VERY depressed about 2weeks into being sick, about three days ago the same type of thoughts/emothions have been w/ me and I find my self crying a lot. I really really need anytype of help any of you could offer. I am only 17, and before June 11 or 12th i had been perfectly fine and happy. I want to be myself again! Please, help me!

-THANK YOU ALL FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS, ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS/TIPS ARE GREATLY appreciated! You can also reach me at my email: Runescape_14@hotmail.com (email me first, cuz I am rarely on MSN Messenger, but I might be on if you want to dissus something)

THANKS!

  • FORGOT TO ADD:Sometimes when I like exhale all the way at that moment (not even 3sec) I feel lke as if I wont be able to get another breath and I kind of feel like sleepy or as if I am about to pass out. It is very fast but just as scary. This feeling is similar to when I have to swallow saliva and I feel as if I am going to choke and I kind of panic, even though I know I'll be fine after I swallow or breathe in once more. Just thought I would add that as it might help. Also I have seen a lot of posts and replys that deal aith alternative medicines like Naet and some other ones, I was wondering... How does this work? and is this considered "okay" for christians such as myself to try, I am sure it is considered okay by the people who practice this or w/e but is it okay according to Christianity? or is it viewed as sometype of magic or w/e (honestly I dont know) nor do I know if it will help me out, and i'm seeking more Western Medicince type of tips or diagnosis, just wondering on these alternative ones!THANKS AGAIN

  • I am starting to feel like a broken record, and maybe this is jumping out at me because I just got a diagnosis, and I'm overreacting but your problem sounds like a genetic issue. Yes, maybe it could be a mental health issue, but it also sounds suspiciously like hereditary angioedema which includes voice box (larynx) swelling. If you have this, a scope of your throat would only show this while you're having an attack. It feels like a "lump in your throat" and it gets worse under stress. My only symptom was that and coughing, but some people get rashes, headaches and other symptoms. It took 10 years to get a diagnosis. Ask your doctor about measuring your C1 and C4 proteins. It's a simple blood test. Just FYI, it's normal to breath out of one side of your nose at a time. The sides actually switch back & forth at regular intervals through the day. Best of luck.

  • As your family seems to have a lot of panic disorder problems, is anyone getting any professional help? Any support groups? Look on the 'net. Maybe your county where you live has some mental health programs. Also, try some yoga. You can get some cd's from the library. This will help your breathing.

Your insight is good. I would not recommend these for true Christians. Although they are basically a low level nutrition program in treatment, everyone that I have checked out also promtes New Age and spiritualism. This does not mean that they all do but you are wise in your concern. Sojourner

  • Thank you all for your responses. I would like to start up with an update:I have been feeling a little have recently started getting a lot of phlegm or feeling as if I have some but cant really cough/spit it up, any suggestions on how to do this? Also, to aquila, is there a name to that hereditary disease? I'm scheduling anotehr ENT visit and I want to ask him about that.To Rad, yeah I guess my brother father and I do seem to have a lot of axiety problems, as for the Yoga, I might just try that. But basicly I know what it does is relax you and therefore your breathing, right? Because I remember (not yoga but a breathing teq.) our coach had us do wehn we became excessively winded was have us put our hands on the back of our heads, keep a wide chest, and breath in through our noses and out through our mouths, that was because we were like breathing too fast and it helped us regain control of our breathing, This dosent realy feel that way it is more as if I can breathe normally but it dosent seem to "work" and the other thing I think may be a sleep apnea (Ill try n get tested) Any suggestions on this phlegm issue? And to Sojourner, thanks man. I'm sure there shouldnt be anny objections to a nutritionist or anything, I just wasnt sure about the other thing. Thanks a lot!So yeah, any suggestions on this phlegm (or w/e) issue I am now having? like household remedies or over the counter medications, or even any other methods that could help! Thanks!!

  • Aquila again-- It's called hereditary angioedema. www.hereditaryangioedema.com Try to get an emergency appointment with an ENT when you're actually feeling symptoms. They can miss this if you aren't having an attack. Get your blood tested for C1 and C4 proteins. Unfortunately even if those proteins are normal there's a possibility that you may still have a version of the disease called Type III. And don't let anyone tell you that males can't have Type III. They can. Dr. Konrad Bork has written on this pretty extensively. I have your choking symptom too, as I often inhale saliva. It's pretty scary. However take a little comfort because if you're young and strong this is probably harmless. Best wishes.

  • You know, I really agree that it sounds like you could have anxiety problems.Your dad did/does, any normal job shouldn't cause that much stress. same with your brother. anxiety disorders do run in families/ are genetic. There are a variety of anti-anxiety meds you could take- go to a pychologist and see if it helps. I know my sister has really been helped by anti-anxiety meds...I really think you ought to give this a chance.
