I am 18, and recently i have developed some difficulty in breathing. It is not asthma. I visited the GP but he was unable to diagnose the problem. He confirmed that there was nothing obstructing my lungs and such.

I usually experience this in the day and i don't have this problem when i am asleep. Has this got anything to do with the heart? This is really a problem because it distracts me alot when i can't catch enough air all the time.

Please help!

  • There are a couple of specialists you should see: cardiologist but more likely a pulomonist or allergist. If they don't find something then it may be linked to anxiety and a consult with a psychiatrist might help...just a few things I thought I would through out there.

  • If you are really short of breath, go to an ER. AT least they can do a o2 saturation test using a finger probe. Are you on birth control? Also, blood gas tests and a chest xray might be needed.

  • I had moved north and began having breathing difficulties also. Thought they were allergy related to new surroundings etc. Would have to go in urgent care center or ERs thinking could not breathe and always my oxygen level was ok. Finally went to an internal medicine doctor after a long night in ER and this doctor had me go thru a complete workup first before telling me what he had thought to begin with. I was checked over completely & tested by cardiologist & pulmonologist..all fine. My final diagnosis was acid reflux! The doctor did say I could keep my inhalers with me but he put me on aciphex 2 times a day. I knew I had acid reflux for I have gastroparesis but with my move had been feeling so well I had no taken my medicine like I was supposed to. Since he put me on that I have not had another episode of the feeling of not getting air.Good luck...I understand your feelings
