The core biopsy is fragmented; while the aspirate smears and clot
section contain no spicules. Trilineage hematopoiesis is evident.
Cellularity cannot be accurately evaluated due to fragmentation of
the specimen. The myeloid and erythroid maturations are complete.
Megakaryocytes are present with normal morphology. By
immunohistochemical studies, CD20 highlights rare lymphocytes.
CD34 highlights blasts, accounting for less than 1% of marrow total
nucleated cells. An iron stain on aspirate smear is
noncontributory due to absence of spicules. Overall, the findings
are nonspecific. Clinical correlation is recommended.
Studies
IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY (Block A1):
CD20 - positive, rare cells
CD3 - positive, subset
CD30 - negative, positive on-slide control
CD34 - positive, 1%
CD117 - positive, 5%
