is it possible for the body to allow infection to take over without fever?
3 weeks ago my throat got sore, swollen, scarlett red with pronounced red veins and an oval patch of lighter red in the back wall(similiar to a blister without the top layer). The glands are swollen on both sides and painfull but i had no fever. The DR.gave me amoxicillan 875 mg 2x daily. (i misread the bottle and only took it 1x daily but probably for the better) I got severe vomiting, diarhea, and abdominal pain. after 1 week i found a post on here about C-diff and it matched my symptoms so i stopped the amoxicillan-got better very fast. I am now taking azithromyacin but feel no different yet, meanwhile- my throat is still as terrible as originally with the awful glands and now trouble swallowing.(swelling) i ve been having severe haedaches, neck pain and stiffness, eye pain and vision problems, dizzyness, cold symptoms, bloody mucus---and still no fever!( after 3 weeks of swollen glands especially?)

I thought that the body was supposed to create fever as a sign of fighting off infection, am i wrong? what could this be?

  • no, but i havent seen ticks anywhere- even checked the dog after your reply. I had a tick once (11 years ago) and had it removed- i was told about making it back out on its own so as not to leave parts of it in the skin. The dr. gave me azirthromyacin now, no improvement yet. I woke up with a strange blotchy red rash across my low right abdomen the next day. dr. said looks like something allergenic touched me there- no new things around me though. Later in the day it covered my low abdomen from side to side and up to my navel was identical to a sunburn, resolved in about 4 hours. now have only a few small blotches that look like burns. other symptoms are nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, dizzyness.

  • Lymes may be a consideration. It is not just from ticks, it can and does come from many sources. About 90% of Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia are Lyme. Tests from regular labs and hospitals will not pick it up often, even if it is there. There is a site, www.lymenet.org that can give you a lot more info.

  • lymph nodes are still swollen and white cells elevated but still no fever and all symptoms have disapeared except the pelvic and side pain. Both GI tests were ok, but ob/gyn surgery was cancelled because the pap smear came back abnormal.

  • I know someone who started azithromyacin and broke out in a rash exactly what you have described. It was from a bacterial infection called Bartonella (also known as cat scratch disease). This can be contracted as a coinfection from ticks or a cat scratch. Yes, Lyme can lie dormant for many years and sometimes it is an illness or some kind of trauma that seems to wake it up. Most people don't even remember getting bit by a tick and this is why they go so long undiagnosed. Don't let this deter you in your quest for answers. Ticks are incredibly tiny and you don't feel their bite. Blood tests are unreliable so you need a good doctor who can help you.
