Hi, i have been having dark cola coloured urine for over a month. Before the this started I had flank pain on the right side for about a month. I though I had pulled a muscle.

Urine sample sent and was clear. I've had a week of trimethoprim and a week of ceflexin. The pain in my flank is quite bad and I often feel sick. I went to A&E on thursday, x-ray was normal no stones seen, contrast was normal. Blood and urine all normal.

I have pernicious anemia but apart from this I am normally fit and well. I am waiting for a referal letter to come though for the urologist. But beause this is the NHS I may be waiting a while. I am in a fair amount of pain, and I don't know what to do. an anyone advice me?

Thanks

  • Dark,Coke-colored urine is usually not blood. It's bilirubin or myoglobin. What have you taken for pain?Do you have liver trouble or an injury to a muscle?

  • Thank you for your reply. I have no liver problems, and haven't pulled a muscle or had any injury. Just started off as back ache, then his dark urine. The samples I have given to my GP have been blood streaked, urine dips show 3+ of blood in the urine but nothing else. Pain killers wise, I was taking Ibuprofen for the back ache then when the pain became worse I started taking paracetamol. A&E Doc give me a paracetamol 500mg/ codeine 30mg tablets. They take the edge off the pain but make me very woozy. Today I have a mild rash across my nose and cheeks. Only slightly red-pink.

  • Sorry I forgot a problem I have had for a while but also been told its ok. For over 2 years I have had a tightening in my throat and several choking episodes. Had a scan several thyroid nodules. Thyroid function all normal. Started snoring horribly about 6 months ago, and I am not over weight and I don't smoke and rarely drink. I'm not old either 28yrs. I am in quite a lot of pain, I guess I will have to go to A&E again. GP just keeps giving me antibotics.

  • Sorry for your pain. Are you being checked for a kidney stone? This sounds a lot like my symptoms when I had one.

  • You originally said your urine ts=tests were normal;now you're saying they showed 3+ blood on the dipstick.

  • If your urine has blood in it and you have severe flank pain, you obviously have a kidney problem.

I have been having this problem for 2 months along with a great deal of other symptoms. Is your cola urine persistent, almost everyday? Does it change colors during the day and then be normal for a day or 2? Do you have any other symptoms?Thank you
